Vatican Museums

1 hour 30 minutes

This Vatican tour includes the most famous and admired masterpieces of art and architecture that make this such an amazing place. You’ll be met by your guide at the entrance to the Museums and, with pre-booked tickets, you’ll skip the queues, ready to start the tour. The tour begins with the collection of ancient Roman and Greek sculptures unearthed from excavations across Rome - when Central Italy was under papal control the Vatican had the rights to all such discoveries. Your guide will show you the most significant of these, including the Belvedere Apollo, the Torso, the busts of Claudius and Hadrian and the sarcophagi of Helen and Constance, the mother and daughter of Emperor Constantine. Next, you’ll see the Gallery of Tapestries, the Sobieski Hall and Raphael’s Rooms. Formerly the private apartments of Pope Julius II, Raphael’s Rooms were decorated by Raphael and his apprentices, and house two of his most famous masterpieces, the Parnassus and The School of Athens.

This activity is operated by Ostia Tours
  • Public transportation options are available nearby
  • Suitable for all physical fitness levels
  • DRESS CODE: At the Vatican and in general in all the Roman churches and Synagogues dress code for both men and women requires shoulders and knees to be covered. Shorts and skirts are fine, but below knees. Do not bring large items (e.g. large bags, backpacks, long umbrellas…) on tour because they are not permitted in the Vatican Museums.
  • READ CAREFULLY: Because of the growing popularity of the current pope Francis and his intense activity in organising mass events in the Vatican some areas might get closed last minute without previous notice. This has already happened this year and can happen again during you Vatican tour. In case of such events our tour guide will provide you with a valuable alternative focusing the tour inside the Vatican museums.
  • Please note that due to Jubilee restrictions, access to the Basilica is not accessible
