Approaching the church, the impressive 42-meter-high free-standing bell tower catches the eye. I particularly like the beautiful inner courtyard with the statue of Christ. Only a replica stands here today. The original by Bertel Thorwaldsen can be seen in Copenhagen's Frauenkirche. The figure is standing on a well with a saying on the rim that translates as "Cleanse yourself from sins and not just your face".

The historical center of the city. The square consists of the area around St. Nicholas' Church. Today the term refers in particular to the area directly in front of the church. It is bordered by several prestigious historical buildings. The square has been the site of many architectural reconstructions in recent years which has restored much historic building fabric that was lost in World War Two.
