Nearby Poenari we find the village of Arefu, where many of the inhabitants trace their ancestry back to the loyal minions of Vlad Tepes himself (in the movies, these are the ones who are always busy loading up Dracula's coffins with Transylvanian earth). Legend has it that when the Turks attacked and took over the Poenari Castle in 1462, it was the villagers of Arefu who helped Vlad escape.

Stop At: Vidraru Dam, Arges River between Fruntii Mountains and Ghitu mountains, Curtea de Arges 117040 Romania
After our stop at the castle we have lunch in a restaurant overlooking Lake Vidraru, the biggest accumulation lake in the country and get ready for an amazing road ahead
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Transfagarasan Highway, Dn 7C Sibiu and Arges County, Curtea de Arges 115300 Romania

Duration: 4 hours

Stop At: Sighisoara, Sighisoara, Mures County, Central Romania, Transylvania
Our second Dracula trail’s stop is Sighisoara, one of the most beautifully preserved inhabited citadels in the world! This UNESCO gem is home to medieval buildings, hidden chambers, burgher houses, towers and ornate churches full of myths and legends. It is here that Vlad the Impaler was born and we will have dinner in the house that was his birthplace that is now a traditional Romanian restaurant.
Duration: 2 hours

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Overnight in Sighisoara, in a beautifully renovated historical house (subject to change depending on availability).

Day 2: Day 2: Sighisoara and Bistrita

Stop At: Bistrita, Bistrita, Bistrita-Nasaud County, Northwest Romania, Transylvania
This is where the creative genius of Bram Stoker imagined Dracula’s home, nestled in the mountains, between villages of peasants who “anxiously cross themselves when they hear of him’ as Jonathan Harker describes. Bistrita is far from the touristic trail, but well-worth the visit as it will give true Dracula buffs a place where reality is mixed with a whole lot of myth making it in so many ways just like Dracula.
Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Tihuța Pass, Romania
We will also travel eastward to see the Borgo Pass (or Pasul Bargau in Romanian) which links Transylvania to Moldavia through the Carpathians. The Bargau Valley encompasses some of the most beautiful unspoiled mountain scenery with picturesque traditional villages located in valleys and on hillsides, ideal bases for discovering their vivid tapestry of old customs, handicrafts and folklore.

• Breakfast
• Lunch: Our lunch is served in Golden Crown hotel, where you can have the meal that Jonathan Harker had before meeting the Count

After a hearty breakfast in Hotel Dracula, we start our journey back and we stop in Brasov, a medieval Saxon city, located in the heart of the country known for its excellent Romanian cuisine and amazing views from the mountain that surrounds the city center. After we check-in, we invite you to take a walking tour with us around the old town and discover some local legends from Vlad the Impaler's time.
Duration: 3 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast
Accommodation included: Overnight in a restored Saxon house, located in the city center

Day 4: Day 4: Bran Castle, Targoviste, Snagov and back to Bucharest

Stop At: Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle), Str. General Traian Mosoiu nr. 24, Bran 507025 Romania
We leave Brasov and our first stop of the day is probably the most famous one, Bran Castle. Built on the site of a Teutonic Knights stronghold dating from 1212, the castle was first documented in an act issued by Louis I of Hungary on November 19, 1377, giving the Saxons of Kronstadt (Brasov) the privilege to build the Citadel. It is said that Bram Stoker saw the magnificent structure and its imposing towers and turrets in a photo and thought it would be the perfect place for a count like Dracula and so the descriptions in the novel are based on it. We take a tour of the castle and have lunch in a nearby restaurant.
Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Chindiei Tower (Sunset Tower), Targoviste Romania
After lunch, our 2nd stop of the day is The Princely Court in Targoviste where we explore the 14th century fortress and Chindiei Watchtower (Turnul Chindiei). The court served as the capital of Wallachia, where Vlad Tepes ruled. It was here that the Prince impaled a great many disloyal court members (the boyars) after inviting them to a celebratory feast gaining him the nickname of “Impaler” as this was his favorite punishment. After finding more local stories related to the real-life ruler of Wallachia or the fictional character Dracula we finish our tour and head back to Bucharest.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Snagov Monastery, Strada Manastirea Vlad Tepes Silistea, Snagov 077117 Romania
On our way back we will also stop at Snagov Monastery, built in 1364 and currently located on a tiny island in a lake, just outside of Bucharest. The Romanian ruler, Vlad the Impaler, added thick defending walls and a dungeon and for this a plaque on the floor inside the church marks the grave with the presumed remains of the world-known count.
We will reach Bucharest in the evening and drop you off at your hotel.
