Sintra 30 minutes from Lisbon First, you will visit the historic center of Sintra, where the Sintra National Palace is located, you will have about 40 minutes free time in the historic center area to discover the village and also the opportunity to taste the queijadas and pillows of Sintra. Then we will drive to the palace of Monserrate, about 15 minutes from the center. This magnificent palace in Monserrate received different species of trees from all over the world, which were organized by geographic areas, reflecting the different origins of the plants and composing scenarios along paths, among ruins, nooks, lakes and waterfalls. This is mainly thanks to the intervention of landscape architect William Stockdale, botanist William Neville and master gardener James Burt but, above all, to the romantic spirit of Francis Cook. When Francis Cook, a wealthy 19th-century English industrialist and great art collector, visited the site, he was fascinated. From that passion a masterpiece of Romanticism was born: the Park and Palace of Monserrate.
