Stop At: Volubilis
After breakfast, you will meet your driver at your hotel in Fez, you will take the road to the west. You decide which route to take: the highway or the scenic route with opportunities to take pictures of the Oulad Shaker Reservoir and surrounding hilly countryside dotted with wheat fields, olive groves, fruit trees and vineyards . Your first stop will be the ruined Roman city of Volubilis. French archaeologists began the excavations of Volubilis in the early 20th century, but there is still half of the immense landscape under centuries of arable land. Marvel at the famous sights, such as the basilica, the triumphal arch and the many palaces with exquisite mosaics. The Volubilis visit can be done with or without a local guide. You will then make a brief stop in the small town adjacent to Moulay Idriss Zerhoun. Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, perched on top of a hill overlooking Volubilis, houses the mausoleum of Moulay Idriss I (745-791), the first Arab king of Morocco. During your stop in Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, you will visit a panoramic viewpoint, visit the city center and have lunch, have a snack or a drink.
