The Ancient Corinth was one of the most important and prestigious Greek cities in antiquity. Settled as early as 6,500 B.C. and rival of Athens, it reached its peak in importance and prosperity during the Mycenaean Age and played a vital role in the development of Ancient Greece, as well as in the famous wars of Peloponnese, Salamina, Plataies. Some of the most important monuments and sites include the Temple of Apollo, the Fountain of Glauke, the Sacred Spring and the Odeon.

Within the ancient city is the site of Saint Paul’s Footsteps.

The Bema (βήμα - footstep) of Saint Paul stands in the middle of the Roman Forum in Ancient Corinth. According to history, Saint Paul was also called “Apostle of the Nations” due to his extensive work disseminating Christianity. Among the many cities he visited in Greece, Ancient Corinth was one of them. The Jews of the area were questioning his actions, therefore he was brought to trial by Proconsul Gallio. His trial took place on a large elevated rostrum at the centre of the Roman Forum.

Later on, a Christian church was built on that site.

Possibility of having lunch in Corinth or during our stop at the Corinth Canal (also known as Isthmus of Corinth).

Return to Athens in the afternoon hours.
