Berat is one of the oldest cities of Albania, also part of UNESCO heritage. It is famous for its characteristic architecture, which has also given to the city the name ‘the city of 1001 windows’. Through this tour you will discover its rich culture and travel back in time as you stroll through the meandering streets, home to the Ottomans in the 15th century, and at the same time learn more about the architecture of this beautiful city. The guide includes the visit in these sites of interest: • The Castle– an inhabited area since the beginnings of its civilization, around 2400 years. It is reach in history and monuments, especially churches. • Gorica Bridge – The bridge’s primary purpose is to connect the neighborhood of Gorica, over the Osum River, with the beautiful Mangalemi quarter and adjacent neighborhoods. • The medieval center – was built by Sultan Bayazit II at the end of the XV century. • Mangalem&Gorica quarters.

Stop At: Berat Castle
A very interesting walk around the inhabited neighborhood within the castle of Berat, what makes this walk even more special. We are going to see the structure and architecture used in its walls and different churches present there, as well as mosques and the very relaxing environment.

Stop At: National Iconographic Museum Onufri
This is a small iconography exhibition inside the Church of St. Mary of Blachernae on the grounds of the Berat castle. The museum was named to honor Onufri, an Albanian painting Headmaster of XVI Century. The museum features on display 173 objects belonging to the found of Albanian Churches and Monasteries from which 106 are icons by Albanian icon painters of the XVI – XX centuries: Onufri and his son Nicola, David Selenica, Kostandin Shpataraku and Cetirs (Gjergj, Nicola, Johan, Naum, Gjergj junior), as well as some anonymous painters. The other 67 items of the collection are liturgical objects.

Stop At: National Ethnographic Museum Berat
It is located in a house of the Ottoman era. The ground floor has displays of traditional clothes and the tools used by silversmiths and weavers, while the upper storey has kitchens, bedrooms and guest rooms decked out in traditional style.

Stop At: Quarter Of Gorica
The suburb across the Osum, is another characteristic monumental building ensemble facing Mangalem Quarter on the other side of the river. Its development began in the mid 16th century, The modern quarter has preserved its original atmosphere. The bridge of Gorica was built by Ahmet Kurt Pasha and is one of the finest Ottoman monuments in the city. It has seven elegant arches which span 130 metres accross the Osum River. The style, shape and the local white stone give this monument a unique beauty.
