This family friendly tour will offer both a fun-filled adventure and moments of profound serenity as you walk underneath the surface of the moss covered lava field. At the entrance the cave has some of the most amazing colours found in the lava fields of Iceland and the hike underground is easy enough for most although some crawling will be required. In other words, the lava tube tours are not intended to be a serious cave exploration but fun, exciting and memorable.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Leidarendi Cave, Reykjavik Iceland

The drive through the mossy lava fields surrounding Reykjavik and to the cave takes only about 25 min but it still feels like stepping back in time to the middle of nowhere, knowing that a big part of the whole landscape is less than 2000 years old.

Once at the cave site the guide will provide the necessary caving gear followed by a short safety briefing and explanation about the formation of these natural wonders that the lava tubes are.
The cave is quite accessible but the entrance can be covered in snow in winter and the floor will have some ice and rocks on the floor that may require an extra helpful hand for balance.
In the cave, there are both unique colors and lava formations such as lava stalactites and lava drip stalagmites...

The cave is quite accessible but the entrance can be covered in snow in winter and the floor will have some ice and rocks on the floor that may require an extra helpful hand for balance.
In the cave, there are both unique colors and lava formations such as lava stalactites and lava drip stalagmites and there will be plenty of time for pictures and explanations where needed. The hike inside the cave will take approx. 1 hour and guests will get the opportunity to sit down and enjoy the complete darkness and sounds found in the cave and eventually listen to some stories from the guides. Once outside make sure to enjoy the included hot chocolate and the nice scenery around the cave before heading back to Reykjavik.

Please note that winter tours can be challenging depending on the weather. All cave guides have received specialized training in order to operate these tours and most are also volunteers in the local Search & Rescue.
