Stop At: Archaeological Site Mycenae

First visit is going to be the region of Argolis, the land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of the Greek civilization and a military stronghold which was mainly dominated at the southern Greece. There you will be able to visit the archaeological site, the kingdom of the mythical Agamemnon, the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure.

Stop At: Nafplio

Next destination will be Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece. Its Venetian fortress, Fort Palamidi, and the fortified islet of Bourtzi or Kasteli will charm you and invite you to take wonderful walks in its ancient city over the town with the romantic Plaka district at its top offering breathtaking views over Argolic Gulf, a perfect place for your lunch break.

One of the symbols of Nafplio is the Palamidi Fortress, built at a height of 216 meters by the Venetians in 1685, from 1715 to more than a hundred years under Turkish rule. Fortress Palamidi later played an important role during the Greek War of Independence, where one of the greatest heroes, Theodoros Kolocotronis, was kept here.
