The peninsula of Kalpitiya is one of the top destinations for kitesurfing in Sri Lanka – it is the ultimate experience for anyone looking for adventure water sports amidst breathtaking scenic beauty. Sri Lanka is gaining recognition within the international kitesurfing community mainly because of what Kalpitiya has to offer.

Kalpitiya is renowned for its excellent winds throughout the year, particularly during May to September, which is the perfect time for kite surfing. There are several surfing spots for everyone – flat water lagoons for beginners, wave riding spots in the Indian Ocean for serious kiters, as well as opportunities for kitesurfing excursions to over a dozen other sandbanks and nearby tiny islands. There is ample space for un-crowded kitesurfing sessions, making Kalpitiya a haven for kiters.

Kalpitiya has a slew of excellent IKO instructors at reputable kitesurfing schools with top-notch equipment and courses for all, ensuring that anyone and everyone can enjoy kitesurfing in Sri Lanka safely. From beginners hoping to learn the basics and try their hand at this fun sport to advanced kiters looking to learn new moves and experience new surroundings, kitesurfing in Kalpitiya is a fabulous activity to be experienced by all.

The best time to go kitesurfing is during the South-West monsoon season which lasts from May and October. During this time, Kalpitiya delivers strong south-west winds almost daily with an average of 20-25 knots, peaking around 30 knots, all day long.

Day 3: After breakfast enjoy Whale watching excursion and Spinner Dolphins / Relax and enjoy the beach of Kalpitiy

Stop At: Ocean Lanka Kalpitiya, Kandakuliya, Kudawa, Kalpitiya 61358, Sri Lanka
Kalpitiya is one of the best spots for dolphin watching in Sri Lanka. Here you can witness massive pods of dolphins, even thousands at once,in their natural habitat.

Watching the delightful dolphins swimming alongside and diving under your boat, riding waves in perfect synchronization and twirling and leaping out of the water in a joyous display, is a magnificent experience and one that will be cherished for years to come.

The seas off Kalpitiya Peninsula became famous relatively recently – in 2005 – when large pods of Spinner dolphins were spotted. These dolphins were mainly found in an area that ran north-south parallel to the Kalpitiya peninsula, in-shore off the reef, which is commonly known as the ‘Dolphin Line’. Since then, Kalpitiya has become one of the top destinations for dolphin watching in Sri Lanka.

The best time for dolphin watching in Kalpitiya is from November to March/April. During this time, conditions are perfect to view a variety of sea mammals: the monsoon season is over and the seas are relatively calm. During this dolphin watching season in Sri Lanka, it is relatively safer for boat rides out in the ocean, since the sea is not as choppy as it is during monsoon months. In addition, since the sea is calm, it is easier to spot dolphins and see them from greater distances.

Day 4: After breakfast leave to Colombo and do a City tour of Colombo & enjoy a shopping spree

Stop At: Colombo, Colombo, Western Province
Colombo (Sinhala: කොළඹ, pronounced [ˈkəlɐmbɞ]; Tamil: கொழும்பு) is the commercial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka. According to the Brookings Institution, Colombo has a population of 5.6 million metropolitan area, and 752,993 in the City proper. It is the financial centre of the island and a popular tourist destination. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the legislative capital of Sri Lanka. Colombo is often referred to as the capital since Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is within the urban area of, and a satellite city of, Colombo. It is also the administrative capital of Western Province, Sri Lanka and the district capital of Colombo District. Colombo is a busy and vibrant place with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins. It was the legislative capital of Sri Lanka until 1982.
Due to its large harbour and its strategic position along the East-West sea trade routes, Colombo was known to ancient traders 2,000 years ago. It was made the capital of the island when Sri Lanka was ceded to the British Empire in 1815, and its status as capital was retained when the nation became independent in 1948. In 1978, when administrative functions were moved to Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, Colombo was designated as the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.
