One of the peculiarities of Lake Titicaca are the small floating islands inhabited by a tribe called the Uros. In these small islands visitors are welcomed and can even ride in one of the famous reed boats.

The worst of the worst. The company is called Joker Expeditions and it is a joke of a tour company. If you like to be lied to, not given what is promised, expect a 10 hour tour and it lasts a grueling 16 hours, misled by false promises and being over charged , then this is the perfect tour for you. To be specific, the website on Viator (which should remove this supplier by the way), states a 10 hour tour (approximately). We were picked up at 7am and dropped off at 11 pm. 16 hours, not even close to 10 hours. This is not good when you have a 7am flight and you have to get up at 4am. The tour stated that we would visit the Isle de Luna- another big lie just to get you to pick “the Joker”. We did not get to see it and that is the main reason we booked it. The picture on the solicitation page to get you to book is the “hook” and is totally misrepresentation and a fraudulent inducement to get tourist money. The guide laughed at us when we asked why we were not going to the Isle de la Luna. Another couple who also felt cheated showed him the printout of his reservation stating the all of us would be visiting the famous place ( indeed, it is where the Inca civilization began). The guide just laughed and walked away from the group. The tour propaganda wants you to believe that you will not be going via “public transportation”. False. We were put on a bus like Cattle from the city bus station. We even had to pay city tax which was not disclosed to us either. SURPRISE!!!! No toilet for a 3 hour bumpy bus ride with no toilet. WONDERFUL!!!!! I could go on and on because there was much more bad to tell others (like the bus breaking down about 1 hour outside of La Paz and nobody bothers to let the 40 people on the city bus know why). The “joker” does not want you to be happy or satisfied but rather miserable and surprised at every turn. It makes him laugh I guess knowing that he is screwing all of his customers while taking all there money to his bank. One last thing, you should have seen all the shocked and upset people at the bus station at 7:30am when we all learned we were going to on a city bus for 7 to 8 hours and not back until 11 pm at night; especially when all those who booked were lead to believe falsely that the tour was 10 hours or so. 6pm and not 11 pm is what was promised and expected and contractually agreed to. Viator should take responsibility for the suppliers it presents to all its customers. Viator makes money by its customers bookings. And Viator’s customers should have the confidence to trust Viator via its suppliers. Thanks to this tour operator “THE JOKER”, we can no longer trust Viator and will no longer be booking tours with Viator. And unless you like being cheated and lied to as well as being ripped off, then you too might want to stay clear of both (THE JOKER” and VIATOR).

This was actually not an English Tour. There were 8 people on the tour - 7 spoke Spanish and I was the only English speaker. I felt like an outsider on the bus and for lunch since all conversations were in Spanish. The guide gave me two sentence English descriptions of the sites on the tour. We did not receive bottled water or snacks which were supposed to be included in the tour. In fact non-alcoholic beverages were not even provided during the lunch. We also had to pay a bus tax in La Paz. All fees were again supposed to be included. You can probably do much better setting this tour up on your own. It probably would have cost less than half the cost charged by Viator. You don't receive very many services for the additional cost.

Lake titicaca was nice. Copacabana is an over rated tourist town. The island we went to was nice but unless you are willing to hike 45 minutes up a hill on the island in high altitude and low oxygen you basically go to this island drink a beer at a hostel. The view of the snow capped mountain hovering over the lake from the island was terrific. But is it worth a 18 hour day in an uncomfortable public bus including a three hour round trip boat ride to the island? The tour guide was very nice and did a great job. If I were to do it over again I would have purchased a private car to take us to lake titicaca and back to see the lake in comfort. All who purchase this trip please be advised that viator is not providing private viator transport but is actually putting you on a public bus from La Paz to Copacabana. You could easily purchase this fare directly from the bus company and probably save lots of money. But if you are like me and living abroad the all inclusive price with a guide sounds attractive. I just want all to know and if it is ok with you go ahead and book this. I have nothing against the tour company and I am glad I marked off lake titicaca on my bucket list. But just want all to know the facts of this tour.
