Perched high upon a cliff, rising 900m above the Zeta valley stands Ostrog, the most important site in Montenegro for Orthodox Christians, attracting up to a million visitors annually. This religious attraction is not without its fair share of legends and stories. The monastery has been carved almost entirely on an impossibly vertically positioned mountain cliff and is the pride of Montenegrin spirituality. Constructed in 1665 within two large caves, it gives the impression that it has grown out of the very rock. On Ostrog monastery tour, you will hear many stories and legends about how it was built, about the monks who reside here and above all, you will hear about St Basil – the miracle worker, whose bones were laid to rest in the Upper Monastery. Another highlight of this trip is that you will visit a local household that reflects how old Montenegro is kept alive in modern days. Enjoy in traditional Montenegrin treats prepared by the local hosts.
