The medieval town of Škofja Loka is one of the best preserved towns and the oldest settlements in all Slovenia, dating back to the year 973. Discover Škofja Loka and its thousand-year-old culture, art and natural beauty. The center of social life with many excellent places to taste the local food and drinks presents the scenic old town square, which stands on river terraces, and comprises the Town Square (Plac) and the Lower Square (Lontrg). In the town, you can also find and admire the old St. Jacob’s church and the Škofja Loka Castle, which offers a panoramic view of the Slovenian Alps and surroundings.

This peaceful and old-fashioned town below the massive Kamnik-Savinja Alps mountain chain is one of the oldest and most historical towns in Slovenia. At first it was an important medieval town, but later it became an industrial town and today it is treated as a town with a rich history, festivals and as a tourist destination. The most remarkable street is the Šutna street, once the street of craftsmen. Kamnik also owns two medieval castles on the hill: »Mali grad« or Small castle (a castle with a small romanesque chapel) and »Stari grad« or the old castle (it is located high above the town).

Velika planina is one of the most known mountain pastures not only in Slovenia, but also around Europe. There is a herdsmen's settlement on the plateau, which consists of many huts that were built in a unique architectural style. According to tradition the farmers from nearby lowland areas take the cows to their pasture on the Velika planina, where they spend the summer. This rich ethnological history is preserved in the Preskar museum and it can be tasted through local dairy products.
