After hotel pickup in Panama City, begin your day trip to El Valle de Antón, located high in the mountains of Panama and perched at the base of the largest inhabited volcano crater in the world. Once a crater lake, this quiet village became home to native people from the surrounding mountains who have been here for thousands of years.

Your tour includes a few stops, but you can choose which places to see and for how long. You may visit La Piedra Pintada, remnants of El Valle's pre-Columbian culture; these undeciphered petroglyphs lie below the crater formation La India Dormida. Hike to the top of the Sleeping Indian, as she is called, and take in the sweeping view of the surrounding mountains and valley below.

You can also visit the zoo (El Nizpero) and the Orchid Center, or simply relax in a hammock with a glass of Panamanian beer (entrance fees, food, and drinks are at your own expense). Enjoy the spring-like climate, listen to the local birds, and breathe in the clean mountain air.

On weekends, this quiet village comes to life as Panamanian weekenders arrive to enjoy El Valle's arts and crafts market, where locals and members of the Kuna Yala community sell their colorful goods.

At the end of the tour, you will be driven back to your hotel.
