"Getting there" should be the fun part. Combine the advantages of sailing with the freedom of a kayak. Light-weight beachable craft open up areas that are difficult to access by heavy boats. While large sails and foot pedal drives allow quick travel between places that may be too distant for other human powered craft. Escape the crowds of the few places serviced by the Washington State Ferry System and explore the waters and remote islands of the San Juans. Camp at remote beaches, cliff side sites, and/or tiny islands. Meals are prepared by your guide(s) with fresh and, as often as possible, locally sourced ingredients.

Day 1 Meet, learn, sail away.
Stop At:
You will meet your guide and fellow sailors. Become familiar with your boat, making a few connections and pulling a couple of lines (ropes) to prepare the boat for the water. Practice the basics of operation on shore, and discuss the fundamentals of sailing, before launching into the water. It only takes a few minutes to learn to operate these boats safely, while taking a lifetime to perfect. Once everyone is in the water and ready, we set sail for the San Juan Islands. Spend the day adapting to ever changing conditions of wind and current. With guidance, learn the fundamentals of sailing in a light-weight craft. Using the trimaran design of Hobie Adventure/Tandem Islands allows for mistakes, errors, and poor decisions to be enjoyable learning experiences (as opposed to risky events). Depending on wind and tide, camp at one of numerous campgrounds spread throughout the San Juan Islands.
Duration: 2 hour
Stop At:
Visit Cypress Island
Duration: 12 hour
Day 2 One island to the next
Stop At: Orcas Island
Explore small islands and costal water ways. Ride ocean currents further powered by the wind to reach destinations only accessible by boat.
Duration: 4 hour
Stop At:
Visit numerous State Parks and lands of the San Juan Islands National Monument
Duration: 4 hour
Day 3 Return
Stop At:
Spend the day completing a trip through San Juan Islands and returning to our meet point. Use all the skills you have gained through the enjoyable practice of sailing. Consider the everchanging currents that ebb and flow between the islands, plan a route based on wind predictions and sail back into "safe harbor." Arriving where we began, the trip may seem like it has both just began moments ago as well as taken a lifetime.
