Pick up at hotel was timely. Rania was my tour guide. Was advertised as a FULL-DAY tour but lasted four hours. Arrived at Saqqara to see the oldest pyramid, but first would see a ten minute presentation in a viewing room. As we left, Rania seemed intent to just go onto the next area before I asked whether the Imhotep museum was open. She politely escorted me to said museum(no photographs). On to Dahshur where there was an option to climb into the tomb. I did, going backwards down 100 feet. It was dark. Air was scarce. Arriving at the landing, the walls were bare. There was light. Three staircases had to be climbed to get to a viewing area. The return UP the tomb was a cardio workout. Emerging from the tomb, I was in a full sweat, but felt a real sense of accomplishment. The highlight of this tour was Memphis where some spectacularly large statues of Ramses II were on exhibit. Rania's presentation was difficult to understand as her English was "Egyptized" meaning that there was still a severe accent to her speech. As a result, I had to continually ask her what she had said. This tour is well worth taking but is not a full day as advertised. As there has been an archaeological discovery in the area, it would be interesting to see what was unearthed.
