Day 2 st Catherine

Stop At: St. Catherine's Monastery

Day 2: St. Catherine – Cairo (B) The day begins at 12 am when you're collected from your hotel for the short drive to Mount Sinai where a local Bedouin guide will guide you along the path that ascends the sacred mountain. It can get surprisingly cold on Mount Sinai at many times of year, so do bring warm layers: hot drinks and snacks are available on the trail, as are camels if you get tired. You'll summit in time to watch the sun rise over the rugged landscape around Mount Sinai, perhaps in the very spot where Moses received the Ten Commandments, then walk back down, returning around 7am. Here a qualified Egyptologist guide will accompany you to St. Catherine's Monastery, built at the foot of the sacred mountain during the sixth century, and the oldest monastery that's still being used for its original purpose. Once you're finished at the monastery, you'll have breakfast at your hotel and drive back to Cairo or Giza hotel, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
