This tour was a great introduction to les vignobles de Bordeaux. Our tour guide was fun and engaging, and of course the wine was great. My favorite part was the wine tasting at the cellar where you could order wine to be shipped home. The group was small and intimate and the only thing that would have made the experience better is more time and more wine! This tour was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to France :)
Had the pleasure of enjoying this small group tour with a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. This was our second tour with Camille and we couldn't have been more pleased to have her lead the way again! The wines of this region are soooo good! Loved the visits and the wine too. St Emilion was so a quaint little village. Could have spent more time there. Next time!
The highlight of our trip to Bordeaux was this morning vineyard tour to St Emillion. We were greeted by our wonderful tour guide outside the tourism information centre at 09:00am. Following a brief description of the tour, we set off in an 8 seater mini bus to St Emillion. During the 45 minute drive, the tour guide was very informative and gave useful insights into the history of Bordeaux as well as highlighting the key points of interest along the way.
Upon arriving at St Emillion, the tour guide took us through the old church before leading us to the panoramic and picturesque view overlooking the medieval town and surrounding countryside. We were then given 45 minutes to explore the shops which was sufficient to get a flavour of the town. Can be vwery busy in afternoon (particularly July and August) so this morning tour was perfect (note the path leading down from the car park to the bottom is very steep and slippery – essential to have appropriate footwear and perhaps not suitable for mobility impaired).
We then visited the traditional Chateau Tour Baladoz and the modern Chateau La Croizille (immediately next to each other). The Chateau was located in an elevated position overlooking the vast area of vines surrounded by the open countryside. Really was breath-taking.
The tour was fantastic. The guide (Nick) was very informative and took his time to explain the winemaking process as well as the contrast between the modern and traditional methods of winemaking. The tour culminated in the bar area at the top of the Chateau La Croizille which had panoramic views across the whole area. Simply stunning.
We sampled three different wines and the guide explained each of them perfectly. He explained why they tasted like they do (i.e. from the ‘easy drinking’ second cask wines to the more complex ‘full bodied’ wines) and how each wine can be paired with different foods.
Overall, this was a fantastic experience. I would highly recommend to anyone. I would definitely use the same company again and would like to visit the Medoc region next time.
