Antisana ecological reserve is home to a wide variety of life zones due to being incorporated in the high basin of the river Napo. It is considered one of the ten “hot spots” of the world in point of wildlife variety. The reserve lies between the provinces of Pichincha and Napo. With its forests and the volcano wAntisana, it is a privileged place for the observation of the Andean Condor. Its highest point is the snowcapped volcano summit with 5755m. The lower points in the whole reserve are between 3100m and 4700 m above sea level. At the top of the “Milacoma” (4.150msnm) hill we reach the so-called Condor viewpoint. From here the Antisana, Cotopaxi, and a part of the volcano Cayambe (depending on climate) can be seen.

This tour goes to a height of 4,150m. It is important that you are prepared for this kind of altitude. We recommend acclimatizing at least two days around 3,000m.

06:45: Leave from Plaza Foch for transfer to Antisana Ecological Reserve
08:00: Short break in Pintag to buy some fruits and snacks for the hike.
08:45: Breakfast in a local restaurant and searching for the Andean Condor and other birds.
09:30: Enter the Antisana reserve and drive to the Lagoon “La Mica”
10:30: Hike up to the “Micaloma” hill
11:30: Reaching the top to observe Condors and enjoy the beautiful view over the Antisana Reserve and the Lagoon (height 4.150m)
12:15: Start of the 12km downhill route with the mountain bikes
13:30: Lunch in a local restaurant
15:00: Drive back to Quito
17:30: Arrive at Plaza Foch (initial point)
