Mt. Bromo & Mt. Ijen are 2 worthy highlights of East Java. Visit 2 spectacular active volcanoes in 3 days. You will have to wake up early each morning to get the best of both sites. You will get rewarded tough with a grey-greyish unbelievable moonlike landscape at mount Bromo and the most acidic green blueish lake in the world at Ijen... The sulphur miners at the crater lake, will be working from early morning till about noon. After the tour you will be dropped in Ketapang/Banyuwangi. Or, you can return to Surabaya. You will spend the night in Cemara Lawang in Cafe Lava hotel (or similar) and in Bondowoso in Ijen View Hotel. All included except travel insurance, personal expenses, all lunches and dinners, horse riding at mount Bromo, optional tours. If you book the tour for 4 or more travelers, an English speaking guide is added to the tour.

You will be picked up at 09:00 at the airport, train station or at your hotel in Surabaya. On route to Cemara Lawang village you will visit the Madakaripura Waterfalls.
After you checked in at your hotel, you can explore the Hindu Tengger area and culture with your driver.
At the crater rim you have excellent views over the area and you can witness the sunset and you will have some time
Day 2: Bromo sunrise tour
Your Jeep will be ready at 03:00. You will drive to one of the highest view points in the area: Mt. Pananjakan. The sunrise can be thrilling. Weather conditions colour the scenery.
After sunrise, you will descend to the black sea of sand. If you wish to walk, just ask the driver to stop. Otherwise he will bring you till near the Luhur Poten temple. Then it is a 45 minutes walk to the top of Mt. Bromo. Take your time in this inspiring grey-greyish landscape.
When back at the Jeep, you return to your hotel. You can have breakfast and a refreshing shower before checking out and heading to Bondowoso city. The drive to Bondowoso takes about 5 to 6 hours.
Day 3: Ijen crater lake
The dazzling blue fire phenomenon can only be seen at night. You will depart midnight. Climbing down into the crater of active volcano Ijen with the most acidic lake in the world is dangerous. Keep in mind that this part of the tour is only for those in physical good condition. This part of the tour will be at your own risk. Not interested? Then you will depart at 04:00.
The drive from Bondowoso to Paltuding takes about 2 hours. Then you will need at least one hour to conquer the 3 km to the top.
You will meet the sulphur miners. They carry bamboo baskets up to 100 kg out of the crater up the rim. Once at the rim they reload the sulphur onto a trolley, to be wheeled down to the sulphur weighing area.
Feel inspired by the green-blueish lake bordered by the brownish crater walls. Explore. Walk your day. Take your time.
Back at the parking area don't forget to visit the sulphur weighing area. Sulphur miners weigh their loads, load it on a truck and get paid.
Enjoy a local snack and a welcoming cup of coffee or tea.
Depending on your time schedule you can visit the sulphur purifying factory, a coffee plantation and a waterfall.
You will be dropped in Ketapang harbour where you will arrive around noon.
If you wish to return to Surabaya, the extra cost will be USD 25.
