Day 1 Surabaya - Madakaripura waterfalls - exploration area Cemara Lawang village
Stop At: Smartine Indonesia Travel
Smartine Indonesia Travel has drivers in Central and East Java, and Bali. The actually office is located in Malang city, 90 km south of Surabaya city.
Stop At: Madakaripura Waterfall
You will be picked up in Surabaya at 09:30. That can be anywhere as longs as it is in the city. You will need about 3 hours to reach Cemara Lawang village, as it is not the distance, but Java's traffic conditions that will slow you down. On route from Surabaya to Cemara Lawang village you will visit the enchanting Madakaripura waterfalls. These waterfalls are a hidden treasure and holy to the local Tengger Hindu people. Once the car parked it is a 15 min motorbike ride (with driver) to the entrance of the waterfall. From the entrance it is an fairly easy 30 min walk one way. But, be ready to get wet. Once can only visit the waterfalls when it isn't raining of hasn't been raining heavily as then the water flow off the waterfall is too dangerous to get near.

The village Cemara Lawang is beautifully situated at the edge of the caldera. Beautiful views from this village guaranteed. Explore local village life, drink a cup of coffee or tea in a local home, meet the farmers out in the field, visit the local market. And best of it all, you will get to see the sunset (of course depending on weather conditions)....

Day 2 Sunrise at mount Penanjakan - Sand Sea - Luhur Poten temple - Bromo crater - Surabaya
Stop At: Gunung Penanjakan
Around 03:00 in the morning your Jeep is ready for departure. You will be driven to one of the highest and most famous viewpoints, namely Penanjakan. If weather conditions permits you to, you can see the sunrise at an altitude of 2.770 m. On clear days, you can also see the highest mountain on Java, Mount Semeru, and the Java Sea north of mount Bromo.
Duration: 2 hour
Stop At: Sand Sea
After the sun has risen and you feel warm again, you will continue the ride by Jeep. You will be heading down mount Penanjakan and into the Sand Sea. The black volcanic ashen Sea of Sand is a long stretch of about 10 km and borders the Bromo volcano at the northern side. If you wish to walk in this moonlike landscape, ask the driver to stop the Jeep.

Stop At: Luhur Poten Temple
The Jeep will park in the Sand Sea and near Luhur Poten temple. Then it is a 45 min hike one way to the top of mount Bromo. Onroute you will pass the Luhur Poten temple. Most often it is closed, but when open just ask to take a look inside.
Stop At: Mount Bromo
While walking to the top of mount Bromo, which actually isn't the highest peak in the environment, take loads of time to look at this impressive landscape. Be careful at the crater rim.

Once back at your Jeep, you will be driven back to your hotel to have breakfast. And, have a refreshing shower and maybe a short rest before checking out. Then you will be heading back to Surabaya city.
