A Tokyo native, passionate about Japanese cooking, Emi enjoys meeting travelers and sharing her culture and cuisine over a well seasoned Japanese meal served on beautiful tableware. This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Emi will meet you at Nerima station and together you will walk a few minutes to her home. Emi welcomes you into her simple home with mugi-cha (barley tea) before you start your private Japanese cooking lesson. You have a choice between a traditional home-style Japanese main, udon with tempura or gyoza. Please let Emi know your preference for the main dish when making your booking. If you choose a home-style main, you might learn to cook dishes such as ginger pork, chicken karaage or grilled fish in addition to miso soup, a vegetable side and rice. Should you choose to learn to make the traditional Japanese wheat noodles udon, you will also learn to combine flavors of soy and mirin to prepare the steamy, dashi-flavored broth that the noodles are served in, crispy, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and a vegetable side. Your Japanese cooking lesson will last 1.5 - 2 hours over conversation about food and culture with Emi before you enjoy the meal you helped prepare. Your meal concludes with a Japanese dessert and recipes to recreate your Japanese culinary experience at home.
