After retiring, he moved to Almeria to be closer to his wife’s family. He and his wife live in an apartment that is a two-minute walk to the beach. He is enjoying the retired life - golfing, cooking and sharing home-cooked meals with friends and family. This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Meet your host Juan at his apartment building in Almeria and enjoy a welcome drink and snack. Next, roll up your sleeves and join him in his kitchen to learn to cook a traditional Spanish meal from recipes that he learned from his mother that he has perfected over the years. Your hands-on cooking class will last about 1.5 hours during which you will learn to cook three dishes from scratch. Learn how to make empanadas, a salad, and paella for lunch or a lighter main for dinner. Spaniards typically only eat paella for lunch and a lighter meal for dinner. Enjoy cooking before you sit down at the table to share the meal you helped prepare with Juan. If you choose a dinner experience, you will learn to make and enjoy dishes such as tortilla de patatas, croquetas con jamon or mushrooms, empanadas and a salad. If you choose a dinner experience, you will not make paella. Your meal concludes with a dessert like fresh fruit or cake.
