A Heritage Once Lost
The traditional Chinese culture Shen Yun presents cannot be seen anywhere else—not even in China. There, the ruling communist regime has viewed China’s rich spiritual and artistic heritage as a threat to its ideology, and for decades has sought to erase it. Chinese artists have suffered untold ordeals over the past century.
But in 2006, a group of Chinese artists came together in New York with a vision of preserving the best of China’s cultural heritage and sharing it with the world. They drew courage and inspiration from their shared practice of Falun Dafa (or “Falun Gong,” as it is also called)—a spiritual discipline common to all of Shen Yun’s artists. The company’s repertoire regularly includes important works shedding light on the plight of believers like themselves in communist China today.

Willliams, having searched his entire adolescence for a sense of purpose, discovered the rich fulfillment in making people smile, even if just for those five minutes.
Encouraged by his early success, Williams committed himself to fine-tuning his God-given talent—a unique comedic delivery audiences had not yet witnessed— by performing his routines in clubs all over the country. By 1999, he had become an established comic, playing amongst the Greats (Martin Lawrence, Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock), taking center stage at the most renowned stages in the U.S.: The Improv, The Comedy Club, The Icehouse, etc. and doing what no other stand-up comic was doing— cultivating an authentic friendship with his audience. Having strategically remained silent through the better part of 2015, Williams returns to the stage renewed, putting an end to his hiatus and more noticeably a challenging personal history. The long-awaited rebirth of the beloved comedian is more than a reinvention, and the Katt with seemingly more than nine lives, is set to hit the road with a kind of vigor found only in newly-awakened individuals.
Born on September 2, 1971 (Williams is 44) in Cincinnati, Ohio, he grew up in Dayton. Always the strong-willed, self-motivated young man, Williams became emancipated early in his teens and moved himself to Florida where he worked as a door-to-door salesman. It wasn’t long before ateenage Williams had his first stand-up experience, thrilling a crowd with a five-minute improv routine, much to his surprise. That’s when he knew. Willliams, having searched his entire adolescence for a sense of purpose, discovered the rich fulfillment in making people smile, even if just for those five minutes.
Encouraged by his early success, Williams committed himself to fine-tuning his God-given talent—a unique comedic delivery audiences had not yet witnessed— by performing his routines in clubs all over the country. By 1999, he had become an established comic, playing amongst the Greats (Martin Lawrence, Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock), taking center stage at the most renowned stages in the U.S.: The Improv, The Comedy Club, The Icehouse, etc. and doing what no other stand-up comic was doing— cultivating an authentic friendship with his audience. When he realized he was beginning to gain a loyal fan base, he made a smooth transition into Film and Television.
Williams first found himself on the small screen in 2002, as a guest star on “NYPD Blue,” swiftly followed by “The Tracy Morgan Show,” “My Wife and Kids,” “The Boondocks” and countless other hit series. 2002 was a year of many “firsts” for the triple-threat, as Williams also debuted on the big screen for the first time, playing “Money Mike” in “Friday After Next”.
Next, he joins Ed Helms and Owen Wilson in the Warner Bros. film “Bastards,” set for theatrical release next year.
In 2005, he joined Nick Cannon in his wildly-popular MTV improv show “Wild n' Out” where he remained for three full seasons, also adding “Rebound” to his film resume that year, the “Epic Movie” in 2007 and “First Sunday” in 2008. Author, columnist, and comedian Steve Hofstetter is often called the hardest working man in show-business. With all due respect to the late James Brown.
Hofstetter's national TV debut came on ESPN's Quite Frankly, where Stephen A. Smith yelled at him for three minutes. Hofstetter has also appeared on CBS' "Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson", Showtime's "White Boyz in the Hood", VH1's "Countdown", Sundance's "On the Road in America", and ABC's "Barbara Walter's Special", where he thankfully did not cry. He is the host and executive producer of "Laughs" on Fox networks, where he only cries occasionally.
One of the top booked acts on the college circuit, the original writer for collegehumor.com has also released six albums. Hofstetter has written humor columns for the New York Times, SportsIllustrated.com, and NHL.com, where he publicly admitted to being a Ranger fan.
After hosting Four Quotas on Sirius Satellite Radio for two seasons, Hofstetter moved to broadcast radio, and his Sports Minute (Or So) was syndicated on over 170 stations and in over 30 newspapers. Hofstetter's second live comedy album ("Cure For the Cable Guy") reached #20 on Billboard's comedy charts. His third album ("Dark Side of the Room") was the first ever pay-what-you-want" comedy album, since people were going to steal it anyway. His fourth album consisted of an hour of 100% ad-libbed material, which is, frankly, nuts. And his fifth album hit #1 on iTunes' comedy charts, which is also a bit nuts.
Hofstetter's brutal tour schedule consists of over 100 colleges and dozens of clubs every year, and is fueled by an immense online popularity, tons of press, and a Prius with great gas mileage. He reached 200,000 friends on Facebook (still the world record), 400,000 more on MySpace, and high shelves in grocery stores.
While Hofstetter's live shows are routinely sold out, he is best known for his writing, first published at age 15, mainly to impress girls. At 18, he co-founded "Sports Jerk of the Week", an irreverent website featured by press like USA Today's Baseball Weekly, Sports Illustrated and CNN. And at 20, Hofstetter took a year off of school to head up web content for the New York Yankees. The Yankees won the World Series that year, which would have been wonderful if they hadn't beaten Hofstetter's Mets. Yes, he's also a Mets fan. Poor kid.
While an undergraduate at Columbia University, Hofstetter was a well-read columnist for the Columbia Daily Spectator and a voice of the Lions. After a summer writing for Maxim, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated for Kids, Hofstetter syndicated his column in several newspapers.
Without his glasses, Hofstetter also looks a great deal like Michael Rappaport.
