Willliams, having searched his entire adolescence for a sense of purpose, discovered the rich fulfillment in making people smile, even if just for those five minutes.

Encouraged by his early success, Williams committed himself to fine-tuning his God-given talent—a unique comedic delivery audiences had not yet witnessed— by performing his routines in clubs all over the country. By 1999, he had become an established comic, playing amongst the Greats (Martin Lawrence, Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock), taking center stage at the most renowned stages in the U.S.: The Improv, The Comedy Club, The Icehouse, etc. and doing what no other stand-up comic was doing— cultivating an authentic friendship with his audience. When he realized he was beginning to gain a loyal fan base, he made a smooth transition into Film and Television.

One of the most popular and highly recognized standup comedians on the road today has also made quite an impression in the television, film and radio arenas. D.L. can currently be heard nationwide as host of his own afternoon radio show “The D.L. Hughley Show” which is nationally syndicated in over 60 cities across the country including the #1 radio market – New York. He has also recently released his second book Black Man, White House: An Oral History of the Obama Years, described as a satirical retrospective of Obama’s years in office. The book, which was released in June, made the New York Times Bestseller List. D.L. is currently touring as part of the Comedy Get Down Tour, which features D.L. along with Cedric the Entertainer, George Lopez, Eddie Griffin and Charlie Murphy.

First and foremost a standup comedian, he stars in his ninth stand-up comedy special Clear which is currently airing on Showtime. In 2012, Random House books released his first humorous book title, I Want You to Shut the F*ck Up. That same year, D.L. also created and starred in the satirical documentary special for Comedy Central D.L. Hughley: The Endangered List, which premiered to rave reviews. The musical, based on Roald Dah’s book, tells the story of young Matilda, an incredibly bright and gifted child whose intellect is far in advance of others her age. However, despite her unique abilities, her disinterested parents have cast her aside as being simply bookish – and cannot understand why she is more fascinated by Tess of the d'Urbervilles than television. In her frustration towards her family’s ignorance and callousness, she begins a tirade of pulling pranks on them.

How did The Wicked Witch of the West meet Glinda the Good (The Fairy Godmother)? Was she born evil or did she become evil, or is it simply her actions that are perceived as evil or is it malicious newspaper gossip? The story of Wicked the Musical attempts to explain this in its own magical way.

At 18, he co-founded "Sports Jerk of the Week", an irreverent website featured by press like USA Today's Baseball Weekly, Sports Illustrated and CNN. And at 20, Hofstetter took a year off of school to head up web content for the New York Yankees. The Yankees won the World Series that year, which would have been wonderful if they hadn't beaten Hofstetter's Mets. Yes, he's also a Mets fan. Poor kid.

While an undergraduate at Columbia University, Hofstetter was a well-read columnist for the Columbia Daily Spectator and a voice of the Lions. After a summer writing for Maxim, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated for Kids, Hofstetter syndicated his column in several newspapers.
