Gloster Hill Memorial Park
[Visit on Monday, National Holiday & in case the 3rd tunnel is closed only]
The British Army Seolmari Battle Memorial Park was built at the Seolmari site to honor the soldiers of the British Army Gloucester Regiment who died during the Battle of Imjin River in Seolmari, Jeokseong-myeon, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, from April 22 to 25, 1951. This battle was one of the fiercest during the Korean War.
The sacrifices made by the British Army were immense. In particular, the Gloucester Battalion held out until the end, even though they were completely surrounded by 42,000 soldiers from three divisions of the Chinese Army. Out of 652 soldiers, only 67 survived and managed to escape. This earned them the title of the "Glorious Gloucester."
The British government also visited the site in November 1992, when Prince Charles (now King Charles III) visited, and in April 1999, when Queen Elizabeth II visited.
