Hippodrome

30 minutes

The Hippodrome of Constantinople was a grand arena for chariot races, ceremonies, and public events, built in the 3rd century and expanded by Constantine I. It featured the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpent Column, and the Walled Obelisk on its central spina. A hub of Byzantine culture and power, it hosted celebrations and conflicts, like the Nika Riots. Its legacy endures despite its ruins today.
