1
Mikkeller Bar
20 minutes
At the center of Copenhagen's beating heart in Vesterbro lies an unassuming little cellar bar. This is the site of the very first Mikkeller Bar. Originally founded with an ambition to create the best beer bar in the world, this would come to be the blueprint for multiple locations worldwide. None of this was known back when the bar first opened its doors. Back then, Mikkeller founder and CEO Mikkel Borg Bjergsø had a wish to create a cozy place where beer enthusiasts from all over the world could enjoy not only his own beers, but the absolute best that the beer world had to offer – both old and new.
2
Istedgade
35 minutes
The Vesterbro area’s main street Istedgade exudes diversity. Between porn shops and strip bars are some of the city's best boutiques, restaurants and bars.
For many years, Istedgade was dominated by drugs, porn and prostitutes, but today the famous street has transformed to something else – especially in the end opposite Copenhagen Central Station, while still maintaining some of its authentic vibes in the other.
3
Skydebanehaven
15 minutes
Hear the story of what Skydebanehaven was, back in the days.
Today it is a staffed playground
Skydebanehaven is one of Copenhagen's staffed playgrounds. The staff won't look after the children, but they will arrange activities such as sports tournaments, treasure hunts and more.
The playground also offers little bicycles, gocarts and scooters for the children to use as long as they put them back after use.
4
Enghave Plads
20 minutes
Does one of the best squares in the city still have room for vagrants? This question needed answering as Enghave Plads prepared for a new Metro station.
In the not too distant past, Enghave Plads was a gathering place for the city’s vagrants and other vulnerable people.
They used the square as their living room, and left a clear mark on the urban landscape.
Hear the story on this BeerWalk.
5
Sønder Boulevard
40 minutes
Since a complete makeover in 2007, Sønder Boulevard has been a popular stretch of green in Vesterbro used for relaxation and hang outs by people of all ages and all walks of life.
Sønder Boulevard is home to many great shops and eateries. It's also a prime stretch for dog walking.
The boulevard is lined with urban soccer fields, basketball, and ping pong tables.
It's been designed for the people to use it and doubles as a yard for locals living in the surrounding apartment buildings.
You can't say Sønder Boulevard without saying Absalon; Vesterbro's extended living room and a prime spot to chat up a local.
6
Meatpacking District, Copenhagen
20 minutes
Originally home to Copenhagen meat industry businesses, “Kødbyen” has changed into a new and creative cluster with galleries, nightlife and restaurants.
The Meatpacking District consists of two parts: The Brown and The White from 1878 and 1934, respectively, and is a part of Copenhagen’s Vesterbro neighbourhood.
The once industrial and gritty part of town, has become fashionable and popular with its central location and wide-spanning cultural offerings, including a buzzing nightlife. Today, you can still meet a few food companies in the area, where the original, industrial vibes still exist alongside partygoers and local hangouts.
