Venice: Jewish Ghetto & Cannaregio Area Food Tour: Pasta Wine Gelato and More!

As many others have noted, this is really not a tour of the Jewish Ghetto in Venice. Yes, the tour does start in the area of the former ghetto, and we did see the outside of some of the former and current synagogues. But this is really a food-tasting tour. Our tour guide Vanessa was not born in Venice, although she has lived in the area for many years. This gives her an interesting perspective on the city. As the tour progressed, we could feel her love for the people and the foods of Venice. We had a small group of seven, and Vanessa skillfully guided us into many shops and restaurants along the way. At each stop we got to taste a variety of local specialties. In fact, after more than three hours of almost non-stop eating and drinking, my wife and I left the tour a bit before the last tasting. To be honest, we were too tired and too full to eat anything else.

The tour guide was great. The food was excellent and the drinks were excellent. Our tour guide was so good that he made it the best experience we had in Italy and we traveled the entire country.

Top job by Vanessa who was knowledgeable and effecting on this Tour. The mixture of history, both joyful and horrific, coupled with healthy amounts of local delicacies and alcohol, was time we'll spent - we departed with full bellies and an appreciation of a less touristy part of Venice.

Vanessa was very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. All the food was great and specific to the tour and the region. She adapted really well to specific people’s needs. And went off script if we asked questions. And we saw a neighborhood of Venice we may not have found on our own. Overall, great.

What a delightful experience. Our guide, Vanessa, was knowledgeable and passionate about the area, the history and the Jewish culture. Not being of Jewish heritage, the stories were only vaguely familiar but we left with such a richer understanding.
The food and drinks were amazing.
Be prepared for a lot of walking but every step was worth it.
I couldn’t recommend highly enough. Bring you appetite, there was so much food.

We took this tour on our first day in Venice after spending a couple hours cruising the Grand Canal and walking the busy streets. It was a wonderful relief to see the other, quieter side of Venice

I was stuck in Paris airport and didn’t arrive in Venice till 12 hours past my planned arrival time so I missed my food tour When I contacted viator to see if they could accommodate me on any other night they refused and said I agreed to the cancellation policy. After using them for many years I never will again. Their reply was too bad for you as per Raphael.

This tour offered us opportunities to appreciate Venetian history, culture and delicious food. Alice’s professionalism and hospitable character adds the stamp of excellence to it!

Guide was excellent. The food choices were wonderful. Experienced new food while learning about the history of the Jewish ghetto and its people.

Our food tour with Vanessa was outstanding. Vanessa was waiting for us at the meeting location. We walked to different areas and Vanessa explained all the information in an interesting and fascinating way. She really knows her history. The choices she made for the food tour were perfect for our small group. I would recommend the Food Tour, but make sure you are hungry as there was so much to eat. You can tell Vanessa really loves what she does .

The day of our tour our train from Verona to Venice was delayed for 2 hours. We had prepayed (we'll never do that again)A for 4 people $472 to take the tour. When it became obvious that we would not make the 4:00 PM tour we texted the tour company but were told "sorry, no refunds unless 24 hours ahead." Didn't know 24 hours earlier the train would be delayed. We asked to transfer the tour to the next day, but were again told "sorry-NO. Called Viator to ask them to intercede on our behalf, and again were told sorry, you didn't cancel 24 hours ahead. Asked if we could at least split the "loss" and have them refund 50%, but was again told, yup, you guessed it..."sorry." Called our cc co and was told the same thing. I understand they advised us of their 24 hour cancel policy, but sometimes in business stuff happens and qualified exceptions are made-it seems to me this should have been 1 of those times, but all companies involved insisted on quoting the cancelation policy line and we are out $472 . Hard to believe all tour companies let the customer fend for themselves when the customer could benefit from the influence Viator could have over the smaller independent tour companies. Oh well, VIATOR NEVER AGAIN. We'll keep searching until we find a company that is prepared to go over and beyond when a customer has a valid dispute.

Wonderful tour with Vanessa. We learned a lot about the area and the influences on the food we enjoyed at various stops. I especially enjoyed the drink recommendations.

This was a great tour! Lots of different dishes and drinks to try, and a knowledgeable and passionate guide. Highly recommend!
