It all started 5 years before, when a small group of personalities from Portuguese society came up with the idea to create a large-scale event for the celebration the 500 years of Discoveries by hosting a World Fair in Lisbon subordinated to the theme of the Oceans. Meet your EXPO'98 Guide and take a journey back to the future in this 4 hour tour.

"Welcome to the EXPO'98 World Fair" this is the greeting that will welcome you when you meet your guide at the "Gare do Oriente" Train Station. This train, subway and bus station is part of the EXPO'98 architectural legacy. Designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava it received in 1998 the Brunel Award which is assigned to railway companies for its outstanding design in the field of architecture among other categories. Small presentation of the history of universal exhibitions and the course of the Portuguese candidacy for the EXPO'98.
