What You Will Do
This tour is aimed at those who want to get to know the historic neighborhoods of central Lisbon (Alfama, Mouraria, Graça, Baixa, Chiado and Bairro Alto) but feel intimidated by the idea of so many ups and downs and want the comfort of a tuk tuk.
Unlike equivalent walking tour, which allows greater immersion in Lisbon’s neighborhoods (because it is done on foot), this tour focuses more on Lisbon’s viewpoints, with stops in Santa Luzia, São Pedro de Alcântara and Senhora do Monte.
This tour places a special emphasis on street art works in Graça.

Itinerary

Miradouro da Senhora do Monte
20 minutes
From the viewpoint of Senhora do Monte, there is a panoramic view over the city of Lisbon. Looking towards the river Tagus, the hill of the castle of S. Jorge is a must for visitors. The flat area to the right of the castle hill is Baixa, the area rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake and bordered by Rossio and Figueira squares on one side and Praça do Comércio by the river. Further to the right we have Chiado, with the ruins of the Carmo Church and Santa Justa lift. Further on, we can see the 25 April bridge and Christ statue.

Graca & Sao Vicente
Graça is characterized by its historic architecture, with old buildings and typical Portuguese tiles. The narrow, winding streets add a unique charm to the neighborhood, creating a warm and picturesque atmosphere.
Graça neighborhood has always attracted street artists, but the year 2021 witnessed the explosion of this type of urban art. Street art lovers will find in Graça an exceptional agglomeration of street art works, notably artists Vhils, Shepard Fairey, Add Fuel, Mário Belém, Oze Arv, Sphiza, among others. A tuk tuk ride is the ideal ways to explore the Graça neighbourhood, in the alleys where tram 28 and buses cannot enter.

Miradouro de Santa Luzia

Santa Luzia viewpoint is the most Instagramable spot of Lisbon. Built on the old wall, offers a privileged view over Alfama, the oldest neighborhood of Lisbon, over the Tagus and the south bank.
The view from this viewpoint is exactly the same as the one you get from the nearby Portas do Sol viewpoint, but the place itself is much more pleasant, with the setting given by the bougainvillea and the live music. The problem lies in the competition to get to the wall where you can get the best shots. That’s why many people choose to go very early to have the viewpoint all on their own.

Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
Baixa, the city of Pombal, is the flat area of Lisbon that starts at Squares of Rossio and Figueira to the north and extends south to Square of Commerce where the city opens onto Tagus river.
Baixa Pombalina is contemporary with St. Petersburg on the Neva or Washington DC on the Potomac, but unlike these cities that were built from scratch, this is the reconstruction of a pre-existing city.

Chiado
In the 50 meters restricted to cars at the top of Garrett St there are several establishments that, a century ago, already had the same name and the same decoration that you can see today. Start by going to “Paris in Lisbon” to do your shopping. Then cross Garrett St for a coffee at Pastry shop “Benard”. Further up you will find another pastry shop, “Brasileira”, which was frequented by the poet Fernando Pessoa, who is immortalized in the bronze statue. Between the two pastry shops is the Hotel Borges, the oldest in Lisbon.

Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara

No one can say they know the capital of Portugal without getting lost in Alfama, where Lisbon was born.
During the first millennium BC. the great civilizations of the Mediterranean (Greeks, Phoenicians, Carthaginians) established permanent occupation in Alfama.
In century VIII, long after the departure of the Romans, the Moors (Islamic populations of North Africa) dominated the city but were not happy to live in a Roman city and built a madina (city of North Africa) in the image of the cities of Casablanca, Marrakech or Tanger in Morocco.
During the 2nd Crusade (1147), knights from almost all of Europe, including French, German, Dutch, Italian, English and Scots carried out a siege that resulted in the fall of Lisbon to Christendom.
The area between churches of Saint Michael and Saint Stephan is the most picturesque in Alfama. The visitor who decides to join this tour in Alfama, will find an opportunity to take a picture in every alley and wherever they turn.
