Barrio Santa Cruz
This area is located somewhat higher up, next to the wallgoing down from Santa Bárbara Castle. Santa Cruz Hermitage stands on the slopes of Mount

Concatedral Sant Nicolau de Bari d'Alacant
The construction of the Co-cathedral began in the 17th Century in a Herrerian style, characterized by its sobriety and scarce decorative items.

Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar
This Basilica was originally a Muslim Mosque, which became a Christian church after the Christians conquered the city. This is another building that was undamaged by thebombardment.The current church is Gothic

Platja del Postiguet
This is the only urban beach you can visit in the city. From this beach, you can contemplate the Santa Bárbara Castle with its characteristic Moor Face profile.

Passeig Esplanada d'Espanya
The first seafront was built using rubble from the demolition of the historic walls. Originally called “El Malecón”. The current esplanade was built in the 60s. Altogether, the mosaic is made up of 6,600,000 pieces in three different colors; one of them is called “Alicante red” as this marble colour can only be found in this region.

Placa Gabriel Miro
This Square used to be called “Correos”; it reflects the bourgeois city and ideas of urban aesthetics proper to the new dominant class.

Passeig Volado
It was built in 2008 for the Volvo Ocean Race that departed from Alicante. You will enjoy the sea under your feet.

Plaza Puerta del Mar
This marked the beginning of the town’s expansion. During this route, we will visit the area where the new city emerged in the second half of the 19th Century.

Alicante Town Hall
First Town Hall was destroyed by bombardments in 1691. This building was very close to the sea and, consequently, this area was one of the most damaged of the city. he Town Hall that we can visit today was built at the beginning of the 18th Century.

Rambla Mendez Nunez
This avenue marks the limit between the old quarter (left) and the historic centre that was about to emerge (right).It used to be a ditch at the foot of the wall, where rain water ran through.

Teatro Principal de Alicante
This theatre was built in the middle of the 19th Century.

Mercat Central d'Alacant
Was built at the beginning of the 20th Century and it was later bombed during the civil war. Parts of this market had to be reconstructed.
