Madrid may be known as a thriving capital city, but the great outdoors is just a stone’s throw away. The greater Madrid region boasts many marvellous mountains and tranquil natural landscapes. Our private day trip with a local driver-guide ensures you can embark upon an invigorating adventure through the Guadarrama National Park at your own pace, spotting local wildlife and historic landmarks along the way.

Your day will begin at your accommodation in the centre of Madrid, where you will get acquainted with your driver-guide and head north towards the beautiful Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range. Our first stop will be the town of Manzanares el Real, nestled at the foot of the mountains and renowned for its hiking trails and its impressive medieval fortress, the Castillo de Manzanares. After a pleasant walk through town, you will have the opportunity to step back in time as you see the exterior of this well-preserved castle dating over 500 years old.

Following your visit to Manzanares el Real, your guide will begin your journey into the mountains with a stroll out to La Pedriza, a striking natural area within the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. From here you will set off on a guided hike through the area, known for its unique rock formations, rugged landscapes, and rich biodiversity. As you admire its gorgeous landscapes adorned with distinctive granite cliffs and boulders, you will soon see why it is a cherished destination for hikers, climbers, and nature enthusiasts. Along the way, your guide can explain some of the significant plants and trees dotted throughout the trails and if you’re lucky, you may be able to spot some of the park’s unique wildlife like Spanish Ibex, wild boar, foxes, vultures or majestic Golden eagles.

Your guide will allow for plenty of time to take pictures and marvel at the Sierra de Guardarrama’s most emblematic peaks including Peñalara, the highest peak at 2,428 meters, and the rugged La Maliciosa, known for its striking silhouette. After working up an appetite on your adventure, your guide will drive towards a charming mountain village, such as Rascafría or Navacerrada, for a hearty local lunch (lunch not included).

Whether you’re an intrepid explorer, history enthusiast, or simply looking to unwind in a serene setting, this excursion offers a perfect balance of cultural exploration and outdoor adventure.
