Centro de Visitantes El Portillo

Drawn by the stunning landscape, you arrive at the El Portillo Visitor Centre unaware of the wealth of natural knowledge that awaits you inside. As you delve deeper into the centre’s small museum, you’re captivated by the information panels and absorb fascinating facts about the origins of Mount Teide and the unique species that inhabit it. You even get a peek inside a volcanic tube! Never before have you been so intrigued by a natural environment. Suddenly, you’re eager to learn everything there is to know about this impressive volcano.

Teide National Park

The Teide National Park is the highest area of the island of Tenerife (in the Canary Islands) and of Spain. Declared on January 22, 1954 as a National Park, it is the largest and oldest of the national parks of the Canary Islands and the third oldest in Spain. In 2007 it was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, and since that year it is considered one of the 12 Treasures of Spain.
In this area is the Teide volcano (in Guanche and originally, Echeyde or Echeide) which with its 3718 meters, is the highest peak in the Canary Islands, Spain and any land emerging from the Atlantic Ocean. It is also the third largest volcano in the world from its base on the ocean floor, only surpassed by Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa in Hawaii. The height of Teide also makes the island of Tenerife the tenth highest island in the world. Next to Teide is the second highest mountain in the Canarian Archipelago, the Pico Viejo with 3135 meters above sea level, both being the only Canary mountains that exceed 3000 meters in altitude.
It is also the most visited national park in Europe and currently the ninth in the world.

Mirador Minas de San Jose

Before descending towards La Orotava, we will stop at Las Minas de San José. After miles of crossing the island's rugged volcanic terrain, we will encounter an almost surreal contrast: an immense expanse of white, powdery sand stretches out before us like a mirage. It is as if we have stumbled upon a strange landscape.

Casa de Los Balcones

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history and traditions of the Canary Islands at Casa de los Balcones. This 17th-century mansion, completed in 1632, is a testament to the region's architectural heritage and a vibrant centre of traditional crafts.
The house features a stunning courtyard, typical of Canarian architecture, with a large wooden balconied façade stretching across two floors. Lush tropical plants create an oasis of serenity in the middle of the bustling town of La Orotava.

Hijuela del Botanico - La Oratava

A botanical masterpiece, this 4,000-square-metre garden was created in 1788 and has been a Cultural Heritage Site since 2008. Located behind La Orotava Town Hall, this peaceful oasis boasts a diverse collection of over a hundred plant species. From the majestic horse chestnut to the intensely hued flame tree, the garden offers a fascinating journey through the plant kingdom. Don't miss the chance to marvel at the ancient dragon tree, a true botanical wonder.
