Authentic Valencian Paella Cooking Class

This was a perfect day from start to finish. We had a lovely day in the countryside learning the traditional art of paella. Our chef Rafa and interpreter Carlos were very entertaining. Rafa taught us the true art of making paella and sharing the history and traditions in a lively captivating manner. Working together and sharing many laughs the day was simply delightful. The farmhouse and it's location was so quiet and serene, really picture perfect. We were graciously welcomed with drinks, tapas, our meal and dessert. It was honestly the hightlight of our trip for me. I have done many cooking classes in Europe and Asia and this is certainly one of the best.

Wow, wow wow! Qué paella más buena! The Sangria and Paella course was an incredible experience! Rafa the instructor has crystal clear instructions coated in charm and jokes. He is an amazingly welcoming host who will feed you, entertain you and make you feel at home. The meeting / pickup point experience was really smooth and easy. We had some of the tastiest oranges ever, directly from his garden. At the end of the day, they brought us back exactly where they found us, well fed, tired and happy.

Rafa speaks Spanish throughout, but he has a translator (ours was Carlos, who added his own layer of charm to the experience), so you get the authentic experience and you still get to understand everything if you understand English better than Spanish.

Finally, Rafa will send you the recipe for everything involved during the day and more! You can really tell that he cares deeply about Valencian culture and tradition, and he wants you to experience it and share it with your loved ones. Cannot recommend enough!

Wonderful experience! We met at the arranged pick up spot and were driven to Cordera, about 30 minutes outside Valencia. There were only 18 people in the excursion and each group got to make their own paella. While the paella cooked we had a chance to talk, have something to drink, and enjoyed a snack. The instructions were clear and the instructor added some humor. At the end we had the option to buy a paella pan and some other necessary ingredients to take home with us. I’ll be showing my husband how to make it this week 😃 Overall this is an outstanding activity and we highly recommend it!!

Paella's not authentic if you don't follow Rafa's historic recipes and processes... and it's a whole lot of fun learning how to cook authentic paella outside of Valencia next to the orange groves and a castle! Rafa was an excellent host. There were only 6 guests at this event, which made it quaint, engaging and FUN! We made Paella from scratch while drinking Sangria. Highly recommend this event!!!

This was so much fun! The pickup was easy and the chef was knowledgeable and entertaining- certainly communicated what a traditional Valèncian paella entails. Made us feel at home, gorgeous setting and paella tasted great- exceeded our expectations!

Rafa and Julieta(?) were simply amazing! Rafa was energetic, comedic, and, seemed to really love showing us how authentic Valencian paella was to be made. And it was absolutely incredible! If you do a class, it should be this one! Wow! Wow! Wow!

We had a fantastic experience. The chef was entertaining and the paella delicious! Beautiful setting as well. The pick up was seamless as they provided good directions to the location point and transport to the ranch. It was nice to leave the city for a view of the more rural area of Valencia. Translation services were excellent should one need it. Information regarding the history of paella and its origins was provided. There were six of us and we had a fabulous time. We would highly recommend when in Valencia. Don’t miss it!

Daniel C. and his cohost were wonderful and very passionate about the experience of making a Paella. It was a small cooking class, three groups, a total of seven people. We were given welcome drinks and after a bit of socializing we received our aprons and moved to the kitchen where all our ingredients were organized for us. Each group made their own paella. Daniel walked us through the process sharing stories, talking bout paella history, the best rice to use, why you start by pouring the oil in center of pan… during the process we enjoyed local wines, gazpacho, appetizers. When our paellas were ready and ohhh they smelled and looked wonderful, we were sat a set table and served our meal which included not only our paellas but appetizers, dessert, and a digestive drink. Our hosts were a lot of fun, and since it was evening they gave us recommendations as to where we could stop for drinks and/or more desserts. It was a lovely experience and I would definitely recommend it to those who love excellent food, excellent wine, and excellent company!

My friend and I had such a lovely day with Rafa and Dani and the very friendly international group of newly minted "Paella Ambassadors" in our group. Communication ahead of time was helpful and easy to access, meeting and transportation were great, and the class itself was so much fun! The setting in the countryside, where paella was first cooked and shared by campesinos, was homey and welcoming. And the class itself was so much fun! Rafa and Dani delivered the instructions in a fun and entertaining way, and while we waited for the paella to cook, we enjoyed an appetizer course and some wine. The finished products turned out wonderful - there was a choice to make traditional (chicken and rabbit), vegetarian, or seafood versions - and all were so nice! They also facilitated a friendly environment among the guests, so we enjoyed talking to fellow paella cooks. If you can't already tell, we had a blast. I highly recommend this class -- you won't regret it!

This authentic paella class was fabulous … much more than we anticipated. Rafa and his partners welcomed us into their home amid the orange groves and taught is how to cook an authentic paella which we then ate with relish. It was a lively and fun and very special experience that I highly recommend.

Making authentic paella in a beautiful Huerta setting was a great experience. The number of want-to-be Chefs de Paella and Sangria baristas was enough for fun and camaraderie but not too many as to detract from hands on learning. Rafa and his team -- Dani, and Arturo where warm and welcoming. They provided us all with a wonderful and delicious experience from start to finish. This cooking class was extremely enjoyable. Rafa imparted his family secrets and tricks to making a successful and authentic paella. The history of paella Rafa reviewed gave us a knowledge to judge all rice and paella dishes with now and always. The rural setting with orange trees and gardens surrounding us all was so much more than any cooking school environment. We highly recommend this class!

Rafa and Danny were wonderful! We had such an enjoyable day and I'm pretty sure I can create an authentic paella at home now. The recipe link will be helpful. Funny, warm, kind, and knowledgeable.

We were a group of 4 friends traveling together through Spain and booked this experience in Valencia. It was an amazing time and Rafa, Dani and Arturo were great hosts and paella instructors.
We made the seafood paella and it turned out excellent. Later that evening we went to La Pepica restaurant which is supposed to set the standard for paella in Valencia. The four of us took a vote and we all agreed that the paella we made under Rafa’s instruction was much better. I would encourage anyone considering a paella cooking class to book this experience with Viator and Rafa. You won’t be disappointed!!
