What You Will Do
From Bilbao we will go to Vitoria-Gasteiz where we will take a guided walking tour of the old town. We will then drive through the so-called "Valle Salado" (Salt Valley) where we will stop to visit the Añana salt mine, one of the oldest in the world. Once the guided tour is over, we will make a short stop in Orduña to visit its beautiful historical centre. Afterwards, we will cross the beautiful natural landscape of the Ayala Valley to regain our strength with lunch (included) in a beautiful convent that has been converted into a restaurant in Balmaseda. Finally, we will visit Bizkaia Bridge, the first transporter bridge built in the world with a metal structure which we will cross by nacelle.

Basque Country excursion
2023-11-07
We visited with our kids (17 & 21, so not really kids…) and had a good experience. Most of the tour attendees were Spanish speakers, but Sonja our guide was very good about giving the information in both languages. I never felt we were getting an abridged version. Vitoria was a beautiful stop and the salt flats were fascinating. The last stop in Getxo was fine, nothing particularly great. The lunch in a converted monastery was delicious, and a nice way to break up the day. I would recommend it as a good way to cover a lot of country easily and quickly.
Great tour

Sonja was a great guide. Very informative and took her time narrating in both English and Spanish—we never got the feeling she was just hitting the highlights for the few English speakers in the group. Lunch at the old convent was amazing, and we liked touring the salt flats and Vitoria. Highly recommended for an overall Basque experience in a short amount of time.
A great day out!

I had a great time, it's a good opportunity to get out of Bilbao and San Sebastian and see some of the Basque countryside. I went with my wife who was pregnant and the tour was very suitable for her. The lunch was delicious and the salt beds were a great experience.
