London Theatre: Moulin Rouge! The Musical

I was really looking forward to seeing this show so much so that I paid a premium for a very good seat in the stalls. I love the film and couldn’t wait to see it be performed on stage. I was very disappointed. The dancing and singing is good but the adaption is very poor. The whole musical is littered with modern day songs that don’t work well together and distract from the story that’s being told. At one moment when you’re at a sad part of the story, everyone burst out laughing when they realise an attempt has been made to turn an R&B rap into an emotive ballad. This show could have been so much better if they had stuck a bit more truthfully to the original story. I would not pay to see this show unless you want to see a karaoke-esque high school musical version of Moulin Rouge.

Amazing! I can’t think of a better word to describe this show. From the moment you walk in and see the spectacular details of the stage to the costumes, you are mesmerise by the details put in. The actors were brilliant and very good singers. I would definitely recommend this to everyone looking for a show to watch in London.

I’m not a big musical fan but absolutely loved this , songs are great , cast were amazing , costumes and visuals stunning. So much attention to detail . I would definitely come back to watch this again , wow. If you want to escape the crowds then ambassador lounge vip experience is great and you can leave your jacket local , have drinks prepared to take to your seat. Thank ton for an amazing night .

Terrible experience - so bad that we left during the interval.

Our seats L1 & L2 had a restricted view (overhang from the balcony) that was not made clear to us when booking.

The exit immediately behind our seats was in constant use, the door letting in light and banging every time someone entered and exited which was happening on a frequent basis.

The show was full and additional standing room tickets had been sold directly behind our seats resulting in lots of movement and fidgeting immediately behind our heads.

We could hear staff making loud noise in the Royal Circle bar during the performance.

A couple of ladies sat in front of us were drunk and making a lot of noise, singing along to songs until a member of staff eventually asked them to stop.

Our tickets cost £200 and this was an unacceptable experience. We complained and gave the theatre an opportunity to take corrective action however were told that no action would be taken. Extremely disappointing.

In addition to all of these issues the show was extremely poor - it felt like karaoke on steroids and extremely lazy theatre verging on pantomime. On the one positive side - the set design was incredible and deserves to be called out.

From the minute you walk into the auditorium the fun begins. The show is ‘spectacular’ !! A thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable evening. I just didn’t want it to end. Everything about this was terrific. A must see .

my family and I go to the theatre every so often to see shows that look good and have amazing reviews. It did not disappoint. not only was the theatre spectacular, the whole show was phenomenal. We travelled down from scotland and was very worth it. The songs, cast, performance and atmosphere was incredible. You can tell they spent a lot of money into this performance and would spend double the price again. Very worth it and highly recommend to anyone thinking about going

Incredible musical! Non-stop action, dancing, clever modern songs delivered brilliantly and with such energy. We went for the Blue Elephant package that gave us really good seats, access to Ambassador Lounge before show and during interval and a bottle of champagne on arrival. Definitely worth the upgrade if you are planning on buying top seats anyway. Loved the show, loved the lounge, very happy wife!

We enjoyed this but a few caveats for those who loved the movie.
1. Why change Christian’s soft Scottish accent for a generic, dare I say boring, American accent? It took away some of the magic of the original just to pander to perceived preferences of tourists.
2. The Roxanne tango was entertaining but this presentation lacked the sensuality of the original.
3. Satine lacked the vulnerability of the portrayal by Nicole Kidman.

If you haven’t seen the movie none of the above will matter. In any event, it’s a very good, energetic, and spectacular show which you’ll enjoy.

This is probably the best musical I’ve ever seen. The dancing is outstanding, really good music and just truly spectacular. Also loved the costumes and the scenery. Truly wonderful

What can I say ??!!! Outstanding show . The minute walk into the theatre it is set so feel actually in the moulin rouge . The stage sets , the songs , the cast , the theatricals were just incredible while a sad ending for the lovers in the show ( spoiler alert) you could not walk away from this show not feeling a sense of sadness mixed with exhilaration at the outstanding performances of all involved !! Love it !! Made it an extra special early birthday for me xx

Staff at the theatre were a bit grumpy not very helpful, good seat paid a lot for it only for a very tall guy to sit in front of me great view of the back of his head, the show it self hmm it was ok lacked a little something for me not recommended only if you have nothing else to do not worth the high price of your ticket

We were in the Upper Circle and a bit worried that we might not have a good view but we really shouldn’t have worried. From start to finish the show was amazing. The vocals and dancing were just fabulous. The stage changes were brilliant. There really isn’t anything negative to say!! Go and see it! You won’t be disappointed.

This musical is one in a million! Awesome set, cast and music... The way all the songs are worked into the concept is extremely clever and the main characters certainly know how to entertain!

Remember to order your interval drinks when you visit the bar on arrival. Will save you spending lots of time in the queue.

This has to be one of the best musicals I have seen, bearing in mind I am not a musical person. There wasn't a lull in the performance and the music was amazing. Totally brilliant experience!

I’ve never been to the West End theatre before.

On this occasion, we had booked to come to see Moulin Rouge and the experience was fantastic.

We were sat up at the highest point, but had very good views. The production itself was very slick, well choreographed, and the performers were top-notch.

There was an app where you could order refreshments to be delivered to your seat at the intermission, which was really useful given that it was it sold out theatre. The only downside was the heat and the inability for the air conditioning to maintain a comfortable temperature. I saw at least two people pass out during the show due to the excessive heat.

If you only have chance to see one theatre production in London, then I can recommend this one as it will not disappoint.

This show was absolutely brilliant. The setting and staging is phenomenal. At times it is difficult to know where to look! The show starts before with actors performing around the theatre.
The singing and dancing was amazing.
Would watch again as think you would see something new every time!

One of the best London musical experience. Great songs, great singing. Part of the fun is working out the songs and short references and who first sang them.

Beautifully staged, costumed, sung and acted.
