Paynes Bay

The "Cubana Monument" in Barbados refers to the site of the tragic Cubana de Aviación Flight 455 bombing, which occurred on October 6, 1976. The monument is located near Paynes Bay in the parish of Saint James. The flight was en route from Barbados to Cuba when it was bombed by anti-Castro Cuban exiles, resulting in the deaths of all 73 people on board. The majority of the passengers were Cuban nationals, including the Cuban national fencing team, and the flight crew. The monument serves as a memorial to the victims of this terrorist attack. It stands as a reminder of the tragedy and the importance of peace and reconciliation. Visitors often pay their respects at the site, and it serves as a place for reflection and remembrance. The monument also symbolizes the friendship and solidarity between Cuba and Barbados.
