Sedona Archaeology Hiking Tour

JC was amazing. He was super knowledgeable and experienced. He made the past come to life and pointed out ancient markings on rocks, remains of kitchens, homes and history of the people who lived there 13,000 years ago. The owner of Safari is the only tour company that has access to this area. The limited access allows for preservation. We highly recommend JC. He is passionate in sharing.

Our guide was fantastic and very knowledgable. We learned a lot, and enjoyed the tour very much. I wa sconcerned about the "hiking" , but if you bring hiking poles you will be fine.

The area was amazing, if you love diving into the past, this one is for you. The tour guide, CK, really made you feel like you were there experiencing what the people might have been doing at the time. This is one trip you want to take.

Bob was a fantastic guide! So informative and knowledgeable. We had a wonderful time, seen so much and learned a lot of history. I would do it again in an heartbeat. Also his assistant Mike did a very good job. I couldn’t get my photo’s to load, but you won’t be disappointed going on this hike!

The tour was awesome. Our guide Doc was so knowledgeable and made the trip very interesting. Seeing the ruins and finding artifacts from so long ago was incredible. The jeep was custom made and super comfortable. Will definitely go with this company again next time we are in Sedona😉👍

The Arizona Safari Jeep archeology tour was fascinating! Doc, our guide, shared information about the geology , botany, and indigenous history, as well as recommending other fun sites to explore in Sedona. My husband and I were the only people signed up for the tour that day, so there was plenty of time to ask questions and explore during our “private” tour. The hike to explore the region is not too difficult for active seniors, but would also be fun in a family group. The jeep ride was all on paved or gravel surfaces. Walking sticks and water were provided. Doc even took a small detour on the way back to show us how to get to the Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park, after we expressed an interest in visiting it. One of the most interesting activities we did in Sedona. Doc was an exceptional guide.

Great narration and points of interest on the way to and from the actual site in the Jeep as well as during the actual site tour. This is the only tour operator with permission to the private land where the site is located — so no other distractions while on the tour.

We were fortunate to book this tour at a very busy time in Sedona. We were even more fortunate to have JC as our driver/guide. He was knowledgeable and very conversant on the artifacts and petroglyphs of the private area we hiked. It was an educational and rewarding experience. Thanks!

My husband and I had a wonderful and fun Sedona Archaeology Hiking Tour! Out guide Wyatt was very knowledgeable and we both would recommend him as your guide! This was the first time we have taken a tour like this and we hope to do it again in the future!

Wasn’t sure what to expect but we saw some petroglyphs and did moderate hiking. Our tour guide, CK, was very pleasant and provided a lot of information about the area and the history of the petroglyphs.
Overall a very enjoyable tour and day.

Beau, our guide walked us through a deserted location that had pit dwellings and petroglyphs from a pre-history people. The hike was both spiritual and informative. We are grateful to Beau who patiently answered every question and coaxed me through some pretty rough terrain. I was happy to have long pants and hiking boots, as these trails really haven’t been used very much.
The shaded level walk along the creek was our reward, and the whole experience is one we will cherish.

The staff at SJT was great, they were very knowledgeable and helpful in helping us decide what tour would best suit us. Our Guide John was awesome, he was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the area. It was like going on a journey with a friend. He made us very comfortable, had water for us and was super patient as we had a 3yo in tow who insisted on walking on her own. He gave us so much information about the Native Americans whom dwelled in the area and showed us so many cool petroglyphs, and tools left behind by the inhabitants. We highly recommend this tour, and of course John as your guide.

If you have any interest in Native American history and culture, then this is a “Must Do” during your trip to Sedona. You ride to the site in a BEAST of a specially modified Jeep Gladiator that provides not only a safe and comfortable ride, but allows 360 viewing of everything along the way. If you get a little chilled, the guide will pass out some blankets and turn on the heat! Lea was our phenomenal guide. She possessed an amazing amount of knowledge about the petroglyphs, pueblo ruins, geology, and native culture. She also possessed a wealth of knowledge about how the local flora and fauna was utilized by the ancient people that inhabited the area. This is a private site and only available to Arizona Safari Jeep tours. There are no crowds of people milling about. You will have plenty of time to take photographs and ask questions. There are artifacts laying around everywhere, but per Arizona/Federal Law, they must be left undisturbed and our guide made this very clear. The site is readily accessible for most people, but not those with really small children (ie strollers) or physical disabilities. This tour is truly the opportunity of a lifetime.
