Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum Admission

We had an excellent time participating and learning our history on this short but informative tour! Would highly recommend it!

This is a fun and interactive experience of the Boston Tea Party. It’s great for the young and old! Very informative—and a fun way to learn. The hour tour flies by fast. There are no drags in the tour. It’s engaging from start to finish.

The experience was engaging, informative and fun filled. Everyone in the group enjoyed. A light snack at the cafe was pleasant with great port view.

thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this excellent museum and to participate in the protests, not to mention helping throw all the tea overboard. The 'historical interpreters' were excellent, stayed in character from the moment they encouraged us to cheer, shout, hiss, boo at the meeting to when we'd got rid of the tea. The videos explaining what happened were very well done, very clever use of holograms. The whole place is fresh and welcoming, it's interesting to go aboard the actual size ship which is surprisingly small, and the gift shop has good quality items, not tacky. Well done all the team, and thank you for an entertaining visit.

It was creative and easy to get involved. We loved seeing the tea and boat up close. We loved Learning their lingo and using it during the interactive parts of the show.

It was great to learn some American history since I from another country. My daughter already knew some of the history since they were born in USA.

The actors were charming and enthusiastic. The children and those young at heart enjoyed throwing boxes or tea overboard.

Our experience at the Boston Tea Party Museum was extremely disappointing due to poor communication and an inability to accommodate a simple issue. At the ticket counter, I clearly stated we had eight people and even asked for clarification about age cutoffs for adult and child tickets. I was only charged for five tickets, and at no point was I told I needed to purchase additional ones. I could not have been more clear in communicating our group size.

When we arrived at the entrance for the tour, the staff scanned our tickets and only allowed five of us in, leaving three members of our group—including children—stranded outside. The staff member at the entrance offered no immediate solution other than rescheduling us for a tour an hour later or giving us a full refund. This is after we had waited over an hour for our scheduled time.

Speaking further with Josh, Hollie, and a supervisor only confirmed that the museum has no flexibility or procedures in place to resolve issues in real time. This left my family—visiting from out of town—with a frustrating and disappointing experience that negatively impacted our visit to Boston.

This situation could have been avoided with better communication at the ticket counter and a little more empowerment for staff to handle problems as they arise. Instead, we were left feeling dismissed and disappointed.

Please understand that if you choose to visit the Boston tea party museum, that you clearly identify how many tickets you need and you don’t leave the counter without a ticket for each individual person.

Of all the places we have toured in the area, this one is our favorite. Hearing the speeches and being encouraged to participate were fun, and the museum was interesting without taking too much time. We had fun and learned a few things!

The characters were incredible! Loved the experience and highly recommend if you’re visiting or a native. Pay attention to the chicken. We’re not sure why but it seemed very important.

Excellent interactive museum/experience. You move as a group through about 5 stages with actors that guide you through various stages of the tea party until Lexington/Concord.

It was truly fun and informative for all ages! We loved it! The performing characters were great and the museum experience was awesome! Even the gift store was great!

This tour is more than just throwing tea into the harbor. The employees are dressed up in character which helps take you back in time. The other exhibits in the museum help paint the picture of the political tension leading up to the revolutionary war.

We had been in Boston all week but found all apotz taken earlier in the week when we checked; but when my husband checked again mid week, two spots opened and we took the one for our last day, before leaving.

The weather was probably the best we saw all week!! We had our 15yo, 9yo, and b/g 2yo twins with us, plus two strollers (not umbrella, but not huge either). We arrived very early, about 30-45 minutes, mostly because parking was up in the air- literally- we ended up parking by the nearby fire station museum, on the roof of the parking garage. We were able to easily get to the bathrooms down a gangway and into Abigail’s bakery below; wish we had time to sample the baked goods or sit in their quaint cafe! They also had lots of neat mugs for sale and lots of tea of course.

We were told to park our strollers just outside on the dock, which was okay for our walking 2yo, but her twin has Down syndrome and doesn’t yet walk, and wears a backpack feed pump. Once we explained, one of the actors agreed it would be okay for most of the tour since it was a smaller single stroller- especially when my husband politely asked how they accommodate for those in larger wheelchairs. She made sure the other actors outside knew, which we appreciated.

We had no problem hanging in the back of the pack, and while another reviewer suggested all the speaking actors wear mics, and I agree, we heard everything just fine. I feel we actually saw more from the back than others constantly clamoring for the front. Eh to each their own!

Our group was in the meeting room first, and it was cool the “trading card” person they hand you has a QR code you can check out later for more info on their roll in the revolution. Some even had speaking parts with our tour guide Thomas which was neat!
After that we went to the ship outside. We couldn’t take the stroller on the ship, but were only on it a little while so we held our son or let him sit on the upper deck and scoot around. I thought I’d get a good shot of his older brother tossing tea from there but there was too much in the way. Turns out, leaving the ship last gave us some unexpected extra time at the tea toss while others again tried to rush off with our guide. A few actors remained on the ship of course and seemed fine with us taking a quick and better photo op. We even got one with our little dude and his oldest brother, he got to be part of the fun too!

The rest of the tour we could keep him in the stroller. The first room after the tea toss for our group was really cool. It’s been 30 years since I was last here and the updates are great! At first I thought it was a super dark and small odd room to have for this kind of tour but then it made sense. Our guide Thomas was really good- he even seemed startled when the other “actors” suddenly appeared. It was really engaging and neat technology to see.

After that we went in another room, and it felt like a gallery. Part of the wall began to illuminate with a presentation, and pieces of the gallery were also illuminated and even moved in turn with the presentation. Then my jaw dropped as I was caught off guard with Harry Potter magic as two of the four portraits start talking back and forth!!! It looked so believable, so seamless. Incredible!

After that we were escorted into a mini movie
Theater of sorts with just a few benches up front. Another large family with lots of kids had quickly taken up all the seating, but our guide Thomas very kindly asked some to let my husband sit down with our little guy on his lap, then saw me standing off to the side and got mad others hadn’t offered a seat to me when I was holding our now sleeping little girl. This act of kindness touched us deeply as we weren’t going to ask for special treatment, though it helped greatly to have a seat.

I also wanted to mention there was another actor outside after the tea toss who assisted the back of group when several kids, older kids who knew better, had their backs turned to our guide and his presentation and were horsing around and talking loudly- with one of their adults. I got annoyed and shooshed them several times, but this actor walked over and politely insisted they return their quiet attention to the tour. I thanked her as we left that area:)

Finally, back inside the gift shop where strollers aren’t allowed because it is quite small with many fragile things, one of the register workers made sure we were welcomed and found what we needed and had us stay near her station so we weren’t in the way and could check out easier as well. Another cashier saw me and quickly said strollers weren’t allowed but the other cashier kindly corrected her and said we were fine and had already been there for over 20 minutes anyway. I appreciated her speaking up when she didn’t need to. Oh! The gift shop has a penny press machine just inside the door, and it’s still only 51c!! Always my go-to souvenir on our adventures. Other souvenirs here worth mentioning are the small round button pins that say “FIE!” And “Huzzah!” As well as the teapot magnet with 1773 etched on it, and tin of revolution breakfast tea, haha. It’s not locally made of course, but will go nicely with my teapot collection at home. They also have small working replicas of the Robinson box, but seemed too flimsy to hold more than some bags of tea. If it came with tea or was made with more quality I definitely would have got that.

I would like to come back when the twins are a little older so they can enjoy this a bit more. The updates were great and the careful balance of technology with traditional touring is something other sites need to consider!

It was better than expected and fun for the whole family! The actors were fantastic and made the whole experience captivating.
