Intrepid Museum

See the Intrepid Air Craft Carrier, the Space Shuttle Pavilion, the Growler Submarine, plus watch an 8-minute film entitled 'the Story of Intrepid' and a 15-minute film called 'Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light.' Launched in 1943, the former aircraft carrier USS Intrepid fought in World War II, surviving five kamikaze attacks and one torpedo strike. The ship later served in the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Intrepid also served as a NASA recovery vessel in the 1960s. It was decommissioned in 1974, and today is berthed on the Hudson River as the centerpiece of the museum.

The tour was great. My daughter is in the military so I was extra intrigued and I learned some very interesting history

Awe inspiring. Very informative signage. Easy to follow the routes throughout the ship. Seeing a real space shuttle is amazing as was going into the submarine. Getting to lie in a sailor’s bed was cool as was sitting in the cockpit of a Mercury space capsule.

Downside is at the ticket window there is no veterans’ discount yet online there is. To me that’s false advertising.
Amazing ship

I was very impressed by the size of the entire ship and the huge space shuttle inside. The movie on multiple screens was very informative about the WWII history of the Intrepid!
