Historic Women of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

We highly recommend this tour. Jon is an excellent. He is very knowledgable and witty. He also does not rush the tour and is respectful to those on it and the broad range of questions he gets.

Jonathan is by far the best tour guide I have ever had. He is not only great story teller of Charleston history, he is very passionate about that history. You will enjoy yourself so much you won’t even realize you are also learning things! Do not second guess taking one of his tours, you will NOT be disappointed!

We did the afternoon “Badass Broads of Charleston” walking tour by J Walk Tours. This tour focused on women who made an impact on the history of Charleston. Jonathan was engaging and friendly. He wove his stories into the sites we saw a long the way. Johnathan is passionate about sharing these stories and has a sincere appreciation for the these women. He also touched on the history of slavery in Charleston. It’s not a feminist tour but rather tells the stories of these women. It’s not only for women! It was more interesting than I expected.

This tour was absolutely fabulous! We had an amazing time learning about the incredible women who shaped Charleston’s history. The guide did a phenomenal job covering both inspiring and difficult topics in a way that was engaging, informative, and easy to understand. It was the perfect mix of history, storytelling, and fun. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a unique and meaningful experience in Charleston!

If you want a detailed account of Charleston history with a since of humor, as well, this is your tour. This guide is so dedicated to the history of this fine city, he is writing a book.

I came to learn, to glean, and to gain inspiration as I am in the tourism industry in another state. It was great to be a participant and to be absorbed into Jonathan's passion as he shared the stories of these outstanding women in the context of Charleston's history.

The tour was terrific. I not only learned about several amazing women, but gained a ton of knowledge about Charleston as well. Two hours flew by. It is obvious how much Jonathan loves the city and sharing the stories of those who helped make it what is but don't get the recognition they deserve. He covers the good and the bad and the architecture. He was thoughtful and considerate of his guests (finding places to stop to talk which also had places to sit). This was my favorite activity in Charleston and well worth the ticket price. I will highly recommend his tours to everyone!!

Buildings, poor enslaved people and resurgence of Charleston city. The tour guide was Jonathon green was excellent and passionate about his city.

What a great informative tour! I am so happy that I was able to fit this into a busy family wedding weekend, because there was just so much history, and passion about the Charleston women who had a great effect on our country’s future, packed into two hours.

John was a wonderful tour guide with vast historical knowledge with a down to earth vibe that couldn’t be beat. We loved learning history in an engaging way especially about powerful women!
