2 Hours Shem Creek Safari Kayak Tour

We actually did the IOP tour but that option wasn't in the dropdown menu. Anyway, we had a great time! Our Guide, Chase, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was also very patient with our 7 year old daughter who peppered him with questions and curiosity the whole time. Our only gripe would be the expensive parking. They warned us that it would $16 and was out of their hands but there was an additional "convenience fee" that brought it to almost $20 for a couple hours of parking. Other than that it was a fantastic experience and we do recommend it!

Chance was an excellent and well informed guide and provided a wonderful tour. We saw a wide variety of birds and even some deer!

We made the best choice by going out on the kayak tour with Jackie. While it was a little cool that morning, Jackie and the team got us all outfitted with the perfect gear to hit the water comfortably and safely. The paddling was delightful - she knew all the birds, grasses, boats, and history and looking around our group, everyone was enjoying themselves, regardless of their skill level. The magic happened when the dolphins came and put on a real show right in front of us - so cool! This is our second trip with Coastal Expeditions, and it won’t be our last. 10/10!

Our 3 hour Shem Creek kayak tour with Annie was a highlight of our trip to Charleston. A leisurely pace gave us lots of time to look for wildlife. We saw such variety - dolphins, a sea turtle, many types of sea birds, crabs, a jelly fish. Because of the season, we were allowed to stop at Crab Bank Seabird Sanctuary where we searched for shark teeth and fossils, which we found in abundance. Annie was informative and attentive but also gave us space to explore. She brought a reference guide so we could identify our findings. Ironically, the author of the guidebook was on the sandbar at the same time we were and he autographed the book!
The kayaks were easy to operate and have a rudder system for turning. My teenage daughter and I tandem kayaked. The rudder kept us from arguing. The November weather for the 9AM tour was perfect for pants and sweatshirt.

My family lives in the area and we love Coastal Expeditions. We've done both guided and unguided tours. On this trip, we went up Shem Creek in kayaks and had a great time. Equipment is in good shape and the staff is friendly, experienced and helpful. 5-stars all around.

We did the 2 hour Eco tour round Shem Creek. Tate was a great guide, really nice guy and very knowledgeable about all the wildlife, and we even managed to see a group of Dolphins right by us! And he was also wearing the same Vivo shoes as me so that deserves at extra star. Had a great time and would recommend!

I highly recommend any trip with Coastal Expeditions. This was my third:
Full Moon kayak trip. We had a very relaxing and informative paddle up the creek, learning about our local birds, the Maritime Forest and plough mudd. Then we paddled back toward the Kiawah River to witness a beautiful sunset and moonrise.

Breathtaking! My husband, son and I took the full moon kayak tour with Morgan and Wesley of Coastal Expeditions. They were extremely knowledgeable about the environment, the wildlife and all things related to our tour. Our guides kept everyone safe and engaged. We live locally and will definitely do this trip again when we have visitors.

Best tourist boat rude ever. Our captain, Matt, is knowledgeable about local wildlife and handled the boat perfectly. We saw several active dolphin pods and a variety of birds.

Jackie was SUPER knowledgeable with everything . She knows her stuff ! We had a wonderful time navigatng the creek and to crab island . We found shark teeth and beautiful views there ! Jackie was very helpful with instructing us how to use the kayaks and paddle them as well as helping us get into the water easily and safely .

I did the Shem Creek Safari, 2 hour kayak trip in early October 2023. It was so much fun! I enjoyed seeing the coastal sea grass and estuary up close. We got to see the Ravenel Bridge from the water. A bottlenose dolphin popped up to say “hi”.
Our guide, Wesley, was friendly and interesting. She pointed out many birds, identifying them by their song. She’s a knowledgeable naturalist. It was obvious she loved her job. We talked about the area, travel and books. Thanks Wesley and Coastal Expeditions for an enjoyable and relaxing afternoon.

The tour guide was great. She was very friendly and helpful. We got to see a lot of wildlife and the water/weather was so peaceful. I will definitely be back with my fiancé. This is a great date idea for those couples that like the water.

Jaqui was great, we learned all about Marsh Hens (Rails), the local oyster populations, a new subspecies of dolphins, and many of birds, and ecological qualities of the salt marsh. Would recommend for both those who want to learn about nature and paddle for a few hours.

I cannot express how much I recommend Coastal Expeditions. My friends and I did the 2-hour Safari Tour on a beautiful afternoon. It was peaceful and scenic, and the guides were extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, so we all learned so much about the beauty here in South Carolina. Our guides were Wes and Shae and they were absolutely the best ever - so polite, patient, and kind! I always felt safe and everyone felt prepared before getting in the kayak. A wonderful activity to do with a small group or even by yourself!
