This tour of Magnolia Plantation was wonderful... everything from the small group air conditioned shuttle, to our guide, Nick, and the time we spent at Magnolia. All of the guides were very informative and interesting. Nick was very knowledgeable about the history of Charleston. He also provided suggestions for restaurants and other things to enjoy while visiting the city. This excursion was well worth the cost. We highly recommend!

We were so glad we chose Magnolia Plantation to spend our last day in Charleston at. So beautiful and so much important history. The tour guides are top notch!! My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the tour! Our favorite experience was the Slavery to Freedom Tour at Magnolia Plantation. I thought the tour was well worth the price. Nick was a great driver & guide. The sprinter van was really clean and nice. Would recommend to anyone interested!

Chicora tours all inclusive tour of Magnolia Plantation was the perfect way for us to experience the history of plantation life in South Carolina. Our Chicora guide picked us up in a beautiful and very comfortable Sprinter Van at a convenient location in downtown Charleston (this was key since we visited Charleston without a car). On our ride out to Magnolia Plantation, our group had a fantastic discussion about the history of Charleston. Personal stories were shared about life in Charleston which really opened our hearts and minds to what we were about to “go back in time” to see and experience. Our Chicora guide (Hi Darian!) had the perfect day set up for us at plantation and provided fantastic information about “where to be at what time” so we got the maximum enjoyment and ease of experiences without missing a thing. We were able to visit the Gardens, the Nature Train Swamp Tour, the Plantation Manor House, and The Slavery to Freedom tour of the slave quarters. The information and guided tours (conducted by the Magnolia Plantation Staff) were exceptional. Our visit ended with us being picked up in a convenient location in the same comfortable van for our drive back to Charleston. On the ride back, our Chicora guide took “the scenic route” at our request and we had a lovely discussion about our day and Charleston history while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Honestly, the day could not have been more perfect for a history buff who wants an all inclusive experience without having to sweat the logistics. The insider tips, prearranged transportation, and all inclusive friendly service make this tour 100% worth your time and money.

Gardens/flowers/grounds were less impressive than expected. "Plantation " house is fairly recent, not at all historical. Trolley train around the grounds was filled with noisy 6-8 yo kids. The Chicora driver was superb - v good van, driver very informative, on time.

Beautiful gardens with live oak trees Spanish moss and camellias but our experience was spoiled by the “Slavery to Freedom Cabin Tour” Our guide downplayed the murderous brutality of the chattel slave system and Charleston’s pivotal role in the transatlantic slave trade by diverting attention to a row of cabins. These buildings are almost irrelevant (only one was built before the Civil War) - being featured, it seems to me to deflect attention from the real story of the Magnolia Plantation which is its part in the shameful history of slavery in the US. Our guide’s reluctance to fully acknowledge this national disgrace is extremely disrespectful to the memory of enslaved people.

We strongly recommend that visitors go to the wonderful International African American Museum (next door to the Fort Sumter Visitor Center) for the unvarnished truth about slavery.

Our trip to Magnolia Plantation was very informative--particularly the guide through the house. He was an historian, providing much insight, not just a memorized presentation. The trip organizer/driver was very pleasant and clearly explained where to meet the various tours and us for the return. The lunch available on the grounds was good. Arriving by car is preferable if you wish to spend a day walking the grounds and adding the boat ride. However, arrival on your own might mean waiting for a house tour in a larger group with perhaps a different guide experience. The price is right for a no-problem drive there and special treatment tours.

Beautiful gardens. The docents were very knowledgeable and gave a fabulous overview of the grounds, house and history. 4 hours wasn’t long enough to enjoy everything.

This tour was exceptional. My girlfriend and I specifically picked this tour because it offers tours of all three of the guided tours at Magnolia Plantation: the house tour, the nature train tour and the slavery to freedom tour. We inquired with other companies who go to Magnolia Plantation and they said that they didn't allow for enough time for all three tours.

Our driver Nick (and the owner) was really knowledgeable and helpful. He picked up our group at the Visitors Center in Charleston and drove us out to Magnolia in a very nice and comfortable Sprinter van. We enjoyed not having to be on a big tour bus with too many other people. Nick gave us a detailed explanation of Magnolia Plantation and Charleston's history on the ride out there. When we arrived we were given a through explanation about our tour times and our itinerary. Every tour at Magnolia Plantation was informative and fun. Overall this was a great experience provided by Chicora Tours and was well worth the money. I certainly recommend this tour and company.

We loved the grounds with trees, flowers and kale growing on the plantation. We took 3 tours: nature train tour, plantation home tour and the slavery to freedom tour. The nature tour and the slavery to freedom tour were amazing. Only reason I gave the tour 4 stars is that the driver spent most of the trip talking to the man seated next to him while we missed out on information about the area and the plantation.

Great time to visit— azaleas were blooming. Gardens were in amazingly good shape, considering season. The layout and content of the gardens shows a lot of thought and expertise.

We had some confusion about what is included with admission. Website implies that house tour is included, but we had to pay extra.

We took the "Nature Train" tour, which was actually an open tram. Our guide was very knowledgeable, but the poor quality of the PA system made it difficult to understand what she was saying.

The (free) map of the site showed numbered points of interest; however, there are no corresponding numbers posted around the gardens. As a result, it's easy to get lost, which would not be a problem except that tours start at specific times, and if you booked a tour you need to be there in time for departure. The extra "got lost" time you have to allow detracts from your time in the gardens.

We plan to visit again at different seasons.
