What You Will Do
You'll see the devastation caused by the 1980 eruption and the slow return of nature’s flora. A full day of sightseeing, you'll visit the Forest Learning Center, and stop for lots of photo opportunities. You'll visit Coldwater Lake and see Castle Lake viewpoint. Johnston Ridge visitors center is closed until 2026 due to flooding that washed out the last bit of road to the visitor center.

The Forest Learning Center at Mount St. Helens
45 minutes
You'll have time to explore the many hands on items, watch a film about the 1980 eruption, and enjoy the gift shop. Great viewpoint from a little distance.

Coldwater Lake
2 hours
This lake was formed from the 1980 eruption. Enjoy time to stroll the dock and boardwalk over the lake, and have a picnic lunch on the picnic tables.

If you are interested this trail has a great view without much effort. If you enjoy walking in the woods, this trail is for you as you can do a full loop back to the parking lot.
