It was overall an exciting and fun-packed day trip. We are English speaking, so the guides and customer service went the extra mile to ensure we were well informed and engaged throughout the trip. Definitely recommended for anyone including English speakers.

The issue was my hat flew off as we arrived to sand-board. I let the driver know that I would run to grab it since it was down the hill, within eyesight. He told me that instead he would drive me to pick it up on the way back. While we began to situate ourselves to take pictures he put a sand board in my hands and told me to go. I was confused because we didn’t get to take pictures yet so I put the board down and took pictures with half of the group that stayed. Once we took the board down the hill the driver began telling people to get in the buggy. My partner confirmed with the driver, in Spanish that we were going to get my hat. He reassured us we will. The driver took off very fast before my partner had time to put her seatbelt on. She was terrified so I helped her up it on. We did not head towards my hat and instead went directly back to the entrance area. I confronted the driver and he put his hands up and said “no hat”.
I went to my guide from IZI Peru and explained my frustration. She was sitting across from the driver’s boss and he told me the driver checked the buggy and there was no hat. From then on my guide did not support me with communicating with this man. I tried with all of the Spanish I knew, hand gestures and pictures. My partner came over and spoke to him in Spanish. The guy gave us about 5 different stories about how the driver said he didn’t drive us, how the driver went to search for my hat, how someone else took my hat, that they didn’t have the buggy we were driven in (even though I showed him pictures and videos of the buggy. Essentially he was saying anything to not be helpful in hopes that we would leave. They did nothing, my guide did nothing to assist and the driver told me not to retrieve my hat with a false promise that he would take me to get it. It’s frustrating because I would have gotten it myself if he didn’t tell me not to get it. Overall this was a disappointing end to what was a good trip.
