Seen the Main Paris Attractions? Try These Local Alternatives

"Ironic, isn’t it that the best unobstructed view of Paris – from the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower – does not include the famous edifice itself? For the real Instagram ready photo op, head just about two miles east to the 15th arrondissement, where the magnificent Montparnasse Tower offers the most splendid views of Paris, including its most treasured structure."

A Guide to Paris for the Summer Olympics

Road Closures and Impacted Routes

Prepare for extensive road closures around key Olympic venues and main city thoroughfares:

• Stade de France: Expect restricted access around this venue, particularly on event days.

• Place de la Concorde: Starting June 1, this area will be closed to vehicles and will be pedestrian-only throughout the Olympics.

• Seine River: The opening ceremony will feature a boat parade on the Seine, resulting in closures along the riverbanks and nearby roads.

Please note: For real-time updates on road closures and traffic management, visit official government websites.

Public Transport

Utilizing Paris’s robust public transport network will be crucial for navigating the city during the Olympics. The Métro, RER trains, and buses will operate on extended schedules with additional services to handle the increased number of visitors:

• Extended Hours: Many transport lines will run for longer hours, ensuring convenient travel to Olympic venues.

• Metro Station Closures: Some central and venue-adjacent stations will temporarily close. Notable closures include "Champs-Elysées - Clémenceau" and "Concorde."

• Special Tickets: Ensure you purchase the appropriate RER tickets for travel to Olympic sites outside the city to avoid fines.

Plan Ahead for Booking Tours and Activities

Book your Marriott hotel and experiences and attractions well in advance to avoid disappointment and long lines. The city will be very busy during the Olympics, so early planning is essential.

Many tour operators will be running alternative routes to their tours, so always read the itinerary carefully to see what has changed. While there will be less availability for tours and activities due to road closures and events, you can still see the main sights. Opt for private and small-group tours to get the most of your visit during the summer.

Ways to Escape the Crowds
